Kate Hollern
Catherine Malloy Hollern (born 12 April 1955) is a British Labour Party politician serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Blackburn since 2015. A member of the opposition front bench under the leadership of both Jeremy Corbyn and Keir Starmer, she previously served as the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the former from 2017 to 2020, a Shadow Minister for Local Government from 2020 until her resignation in 2021, and briefly a shadow defence minister in 2016. Prior to her election to Parliament, she served as the leader of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. Early life and career Hollern moved to Blackburn in the late 1970s. She worked as a supervisor at Newman's Footwear, before becoming the contracts manager at Blackburn College. She has two daughters. 2015 United Kingdom General Election
The 2015 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 7 May 2015 to elect 650 members to the House of Commons. It was the first and only general election held at the end of a Parliament under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011. Local elections took place in most areas on the same day. Polls and commentators had predicted the outcome would be too close to call and would result in a second consecutive hung parliament whose composition would be either similar to or more complicated than the 2010 general election. Michael Robert Hill (born 12 May 1963) is a former British Labour Party (UK), Labour Party politician who served as Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament for Hartlepool (UK Parliament constituency), Hartlepool from 2017 United Kingdom general election, 2017 until his resignation in 2021. The 2016 Labour Party leadership election was called when a challenge to Jeremy Corbyn as Leader of the Labour Party arose following criticism of his approach to the Remain campaign in the referendum on membership of the European Union and questions about his leadership of the party. Owen Smith (born 2 May 1970) is a former Labour Party politician and subsequently a British lobbyist, who has been the UK government relations director for pharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb since 2020. Smith was Member of Parliament (MP) for Pontypridd from 2010 to 2019. All-women shortlists (AWS) is an affirmative action practice intended to increase the proportion of female Members of Parliament (MPs) in the United Kingdom, allowing only women to stand in particular constituencies for a particular political party.
