Kate Bilankulu
Nkhensani Kate Bilankulu (born 14 February 1966) is a South African politician from Limpopo. She has been a member of parliament (MP) in the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2019. She is a member of the African National Congress. Parliamentary career Bilankulu was placed number 1 on the regional Limpopo list of the African National Congress for the 8 May 2019 national and provincial elections. After the elections, she was allocated a seat in the National Assembly. She was sworn into the 6th Parliament on 22 May. On 29 June 2019, she was appointed to Portfolio Committee on Social Development. On 12 July 2019, she was elected chairperson of the Committee on Multi-Party Women's Caucus. She is also the deputy chair of the ANC Women's League. African National Congress Women's League
The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) is an auxiliary women's political organization of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa. This organization has its precedent in the Bantu Women's League, and it oscillated from being the Women's Section to the Women's League from its founding, through the exile years, and in a post-apartheid South Africa. After women were allowed to become members of the ANC in 1943, the ANCWL was created as the means by which Black South African women could contribute to the national liberation struggle by channeling Black women's political activity into the ANC by way of the ANCWL. The 27th South African Parliament is the sixth Parliament of South Africa to convene since the introduction of non-racial government in South Africa in 1994. It was elected in the 2019 South African general election, general election of 8 May 2019 and consists of the National Assembly (South Africa), National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. 2019 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 8 May 2019 to elect a new President, National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. These were the sixth elections held since the end of apartheid in 1994 and determined who would become the next President of South Africa. Incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa led the ruling African National Congress, with the party attempting to retain its majority status and secure Ramaphosa a full term in office as president; his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, resigned from office on 14 February 2018. Zuma was already ineligible for a third term in office as the South African Constitution limits a president to serve a maximum of two five-year terms. National Assembly Of South Africa
The National Assembly is the directly elected house of the Parliament of South Africa, located in Cape Town, Western Cape. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from nine provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality. The National Assembly is presided over by a Speaker, assisted by a Deputy Speaker. The current Speaker is Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula who previously served as the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. She was elected on 19 August 2021.
