Kasmin Gallery
The Kasmin Gallery, formerly known as the Paul Kasmin Gallery, is a New York City fine art gallery, founded in SoHo in 1989. History The gallery was founded by its namesake as the Paul Kasmin Gallery in 1989 and was initially housed at 74 Grand Street in SoHo, Manhattan. Kasmin moved the gallery from SoHo to Chelsea at 297 10th Avenue in 2000. The gallery's first exhibition featured a collection of abstract paintings by Peter Schuyff. In 2002, the Paul Kasmin Gallery presented work at the inaugural edition of Art Basel in Miami Beach, Florida. The gallery itself continued holding exhibitions, including those for Frank Stella (2003) and Robert Indiana (2004). In 2007, Kasmin Gallery gave the first New York exhibition in nearly 30 years to the furniture-sculpture of the French artists Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne; he went on to show designers like Ron Arad, Mattia Bonetti, David Wiseman and Jasper Morrison. An art gallery is a room or a building in which visual art is displayed. In Western cultures from the mid-15th century, a gallery was any long, narrow covered passage along a wall, first used in the sense of a place for art in the 1590s. The long gallery in Elizabethan and Jacobean houses served many purposes including the display of art. Historically, art is displayed as evidence of status and wealth, and for religious art as objects of ritual or the depiction of narratives. The first galleries were in the palaces of the aristocracy, or in churches. As art collections grew, buildings became dedicated to art, becoming the first art museums. Constantin Brâncuși
Constantin Brâncuși (; February 19, 1876 – March 16, 1957) was a Romanian Sculpture, sculptor, painter and photographer who made his career in France. Considered one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th-century and a pioneer of modernism, Brâncuși is called the patriarch of modern sculpture. As a child he displayed an aptitude for carving wooden farm tools. Formal studies took him first to Bucharest, then to Munich, then to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1905 to 1907. His art emphasizes clean geometry, geometrical lines that balance forms inherent in his materials with the symbolism (arts), symbolic allusions of representational art. Jasper Morrison
Jasper Morrison (born 1959) is an English product and furniture designer. He is know for the refinement and apparent simplicity of his designs. In a rare interview with the designer, he is quoted as saying: "Objects should never shout". Early life and education Morrison was born in London, England. He was educated at Bryanston School in Dorset, England. He received a Bachelor of Design degree from Kingston Polytechnic Design School in 1982 and a master's degree in Design from the Royal College of Art, London, in 1985. He also studied at the Berlin University of the Arts, formerly the Hochschule für Bildende Künste. Walton Ford
Walton Ford (born 1960 in Larchmont, New York) is an American artist who makes paintings and prints in the style of naturalist illustrations, often depicting extinct species. Each of his paintings is a meticulous, realistic study in flora and fauna, and is filled with symbols, clues, and jokes referencing texts ranging from colonial literature, to folktales, to travel guides. The paintings are complex allegorical narratives that critique the history of colonialism, industrialism, politics, natural science, and humanity's effect on the environment. Taner Ceylan (born 1967) is a German-born Turkish photo-realist artist. He lives and works in Istanbul. Biography Taner Ceylan studied painting in the Fine Arts Faculty at Mimar Sinan University between 1986 - 1991. Ali Banisadr
Ali Banisadr is an Iranian-born American artist from New York City working primarily with oil painting and also with printmaking. Banisadr was ranked #1 in Flash Art's Top 100 Artists of 2011. Early life and career Banisadr was born in Tehran, and when he was twelve, he and his family moved to San Diego, in the United States.
