Kashmir Reader
Kashmir Reader is an English-language daily newspaper published from Srinagar, and is owned by the Helpline Group. It was launched in May 2012 with the motto of "Nothing But News". ''Kashmir Reader'' has published articles by well-known Kashmiri writers and journalists, including Gautam Navlakha, Hilal Ahmad Mir, Abdul Mohamin, Yasir Ashraf, Moazum Mohammad Bhat, Bilal Bhat. Newspaper ban ''Kashmir Reader'' was indefinitely banned for being ‘critical of India’ by Indian authorities on September 30 during 2016 Kashmir uprising. Srinagar
Srinagar (English: , ) is the largest city and the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It lies in the Kashmir Valley on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus, and Dal and Anchar lakes. The city is known for its natural environment, gardens, waterfronts and houseboats. It is known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts like the Kashmir shawl (made of pashmina and cashmere wool), and also dried fruits. Gautam Navlakha () is an Indian self-proclaimed human rights activist and journalist. He has written on left-wing extremism and is a critic of army and state atrocities in Kashmir. He is a member of People's Union for Democratic Rights, Delhi. He is also an editorial consultant of the ''Economic and Political Weekly''. He resides in New Delhi. Activism Gautam Navlakha has worked as a secretary of the People's Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR), and has also been a convener of the International People's Tribunal on Human Rights and Justice in Kashmir. He has also worked in Kashmir, and in the recent times, his focus of work has been the areas of Chhattisgarh which are in the Maoists' influence.
