Karpolla On Asiaa
Karpolla on asiaa (''"Karpo has something to say"'', known also during some seasons as Karporaattori and Kyllä kansa tietää) was a popular Finnish television show with a journalistic touch. It was hosted by reporter Hannu Karpo and produced by his ''Pallosalama OY'' production company. The show ran from 1983 to 2007 on MTV3. The show also featured occasional appearances by Karpo's son, Sampo. The show's essential idea was that Karpo would report on the various things he saw wrong about Finnish society and have ''"the people's story heard"'' by reporting how certain people in Finnish society were suffering from public oversight and abuse, and were unable to do anything to resolve their predicament. Karpo would famously and openly award his interviewees with piece of ''smoked reindeer'' or an encased 100 mk (later €100) bill for speaking out. Hannu Karpo
Hannu Karpo (born 5 March 1942, in Helsinki) is a Finnish reporter who hosted his own show, ''Karpolla on asiaa'', from 1981 to 2007. He was a reporter for Yleisradio from 1961 to 1981 before moving over to the competing network (MTV3). His own show was produced by his privately owned ''Pallosalama Oy'' production company which he founded in 1970. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Golden Venla award in 2015 along with fellow TV personality Riitta Väisänen. Show Karpo's show ran for 26 years during which he received a number of death threats. His shows led to 37 trials and zero convictions for him. He has also been asked to run for politics by numerous parties but has continually refused to do so. MTV3
MTV3 ( fi, MTV Kolme, sv, MTV Tre) is a Finnish commercial television station. It had the biggest audience share of all Finnish TV channels until Yle TV1 (from Yle) took the lead. The letters MTV stand for Mainos-TV (literally "Advertisement-TV", i.e. "Commercial TV), due to the channel carrying advertising for revenue. Number 3 was added later, when the channel was allocated the third nationwide television channel and it generally became known as "Channel Three"—Finnish Broadcasting Company’s Yle TV1 and Yle TV2 being the first two—and also to distinguish it from the later MTV Finland, which is a Finnish version of Paramount's MTV channel. Reindeer
Reindeer (in North American English, known as caribou if wild and ''reindeer'' if domesticated) are deer in the genus ''Rangifer''. For the last few decades, reindeer were assigned to one species, ''Rangifer tarandus'', with about 10 subspecies. The markka ( fi, markka; sv, mark; sign: Mk; ISO code: FIM, typically known outside Finland as the Finnish mark) was the currency of Finland from 1860 until 28 February 2002, when it ceased to be legal tender. The mark was divided into 100 pennies ( fi, penni; sv, penni), abbreviated as "p". At the point of conversion, the rate was fixed at €1 = Mk 5.94573. The mark was replaced by the euro (€), which had been introduced, in cash form, on 1 January 2002. This was after a transitional period of three years, when the euro was the official currency but only existed as "book money" outside of the monetary base.
