Karo (cigarette)
Karo (official spelling: ''KARO'') is a German brand of filterless cigarettes, currently owned and manufactured by Altria (previously by Philip Morris International). Karo is the german word for "diamond" (a suit of cards). History KARO was originally launched as ''Carré'' in the early 1960s, but was later "Germanised" into "KARO". KARO cigarettes were formerly produced in East Germany by the ''"VEB Zigarettenfabriken Dresden"'', and because it was produced in the German Democratic Republic, the cigarette was made only from tobacco without added perfumes, fragrances and flavour enhancers. A pack of filterless KARO cigarettes sold for 1.60 East German mark, M per box of 20 cigarettes, which made it one of the cheapest cigarettes on the Eastern market. Philip Morris International Inc. (PMI) is an American Multinational corporation, multinational tobacco company, with products sold in over 180 countries. The most recognized and best selling product of the company is Marlboro. Philip Morris International is often referred to as one of the companies comprising Big Tobacco. Until a Corporate spin-off, spin-off in March 2008, Philip Morris International was an operating company of Altria. Wolfgang Lippert (actor)
Wolfgang Lippert (born 16 February 1952) is a German entertainer, singer, and actor. He was one of the most popular entertainers of the GDR (East Germany). After working as an auto mechanic and photographer, he came into the show business as a TV show host and singer. Biography Lippert was born in Berlin, the son of a ''Kapellmeister''. From 1969 to 1979, he completed piano and singing training at the Berlin-Friedrichshain school of music. Afterwards, he was on tour with his own rock music band and sang also for broadcast productions. With his band he was also once guest in the child broadcast production "Hey Du". The director was inspired by Lippert's way of working with the children and offered him a job moderating the broadcast production. Hugo Egon Balder (born Egon Hugo Balder; 22 March 1950) is a German television presenter, producer, and comedian. Early life Balder was born in West Berlin to Egon Friedrich Balder (1904–1970) and Gerda Balder (née Schure; 1910–1997). Gerda Balder was Jewish who, together with her mother and her son from her first marriage, survived the Theresienstadt concentration camp.
