Karnataka Power Corporation
Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (or KPCL) is a company owned by the government of Karnataka, and is engaged in the Service of generating electrical power in the state of Karnataka in India. The modes for generation of electric power are hydroelectric, thermal, diesel, gas, wind and solar. The company was started on 20.07.1970 due to a vision of the Karnataka government for separate entities for generation and distribution of electric power. This was done, long before world bank dictated power sector reforms were initiated in early 21st century in India. Karnataka Power Corporation Limited began its journey with a humble beginning in 1970. With an installed capacity of 746 MW (1970), it has expanded its capacity to 8738.305 MW (2019). A revenue of Rs.77442 Million in 2019 as compared, to Rs.1.30 Million in 1971, speaks volumes about KPCL's progress. Sharavathi
Sharavati is a river which originates and flows entirely within the state of Karnataka in India. It is one of the few westward flowing rivers of India and a major part of the river basin lies in the Western Ghats. The famous Jog Falls, located about 25km from Siddapura, Uttara Kannada, Siddapura, are formed by this river. The river itself and the region around it are rich in biodiversity and are home to many rare species of flora and fauna. Origin and topography The river Sharavati originates at a place called Ambutheertha in the Thirthahalli taluk. According to ancient legend, the god Rama shot at the ground with his Ambu (translates to bow and arrow) because his wife, Sita, was thirsty. When his arrow hit the ground, water poured out (translates to Thirtha) and quenched her thirst. GESCOM
Gescom is an electronic music project based in the UK with close ties to the electronic duo Autechre. Stylistically, the music of Gescom is closer to electronic dance music, acid techno, and industrial music than Autechre's, with the exception of a few conceptual remixes (and ''Minidisc'', see below). Notable releases include ''Key Nell'', ''Minidisc'', and ''ISS:SA''. Members Sean Booth of Autechre describes Gescom as an umbrella project involving 20 or 30 people. Its origin was in Karnataka Electricity Board. Until 2002, the Karnataka Electricity Board (KEB) handled electricity transmission and distribution across the state. It was then broken up, with Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) established to manage the transmission business. This electricity transmission and distribution entity was corporatised to provide efficient and reliable electric power supply to the people of Karnataka state. KPTCL scope of work includes the handling of large projects in the field of energy. Zones and circles KPTCL buys power from power generating companies like Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) and other IPPs (Independent Power Producers) like GMR, Jindal, Lanco(UPCL) etc., and sell them to their respective ESCOMS. Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (abbreviated as MESCOM) is an Indian electricity supplier to the districts of Karnataka namely Dakshina Kannada, Udupi district, Chickmagalur and Shimoga. It has its headquarters at Mangaluru. The company was formed on June 2002. Karnataka Electricity Board (KEB) which was earlier involved in Transmission & Distribution of electricity in state of Karnataka was corporatised into Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL). Later distribution wing was carved out of this company & five companies were formed to cater distribution of electricity to different regions of Karnataka state. Initially four entities were formed first namely MESCOM, BESCOM, HESCOM and GESCOM. Later CESCOM was carved out of MESCOM in 2005 to cater electricity consumers of Mysore region. Linganamakki Dam
The Linganamakki Dam (Kannada : ಲಿಂಗನಮಕ್ಕಿ ಜಲಾಶಯ) was constructed by the Karnataka State Government in 1964. Supa Dam
Supa Dam is built across Kalinadi (Kannada) or Kali river in state of Karnataka in India and is the highest dam in Karnataka. The dam is situated at GaneshaGudi, which is in Joida taluk of Uttara Kannada district. The dam forms the main storage reservoir to all the power houses in Kalinadi hydro power project of total installed capacity of 1180MW, which includes main Nagzari power house of 810 MW capacity. The power house at the foot of the dam has two 50 MW electricity generators. The electricity generated is supplied to different parts of Karnataka.
