Karl Peterson
Karl Andreevich Peterson ( lv, Kārlis Pētersons; 1877 – 17 January 1926) was a Latvian Marxist revolutionary, Soviet statesman, military and party leader, an active participant in the Civil War in Russia. Biography Born into the family of a tenant, he studied at the volost school. In 1895, he moved to Riga, where he first worked as a laborer, and then as a reporter for various democratic newspapers. In 1898, he joined the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party. In the same year, he organized one of the first social democratic circles in Latvia. Latvian Socialist Soviet Republic
The Latvian Socialist Soviet Republic ( lv, Latvijas Sociālistiskā Padomju Republika, LSPR) was a short-lived socialist republic formed during the Latvian War of Independence. It was proclaimed on 17 December 1918 with the political, economic, and military backing of Vladimir Lenin and his Bolshevik government in the Russian SFSR. The head of government was Pēteris Stučka with Jūlijs Daniševskis as his deputy. The Mensheviks (russian: меньшевики́, from меньшинство 'minority') were one of the three dominant factions in the Russian socialist movement, the others being the Bolsheviks and Socialist Revolutionaries. The factions emerged in 1903 following a dispute within the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) between Julius Martov and Vladimir Lenin. The dispute originated at the 2nd Congress of the RSDLP, ostensibly over minor issues of party organization. Martov's supporters, who were in the minority in a crucial vote on the question of party membership, came to be called ''Mensheviks'', derived from the Russian ('minority'), while Lenin's adherents were known as ''Bolsheviks'', from ('majority').
