Karl Paul Kristian Gylche (30 January 1890 – 15 November 1944) was a detective of the Danish police force who died in the Buchenwald concentration camp following the deportation of the Danish police. He is the father of Preben Gylche and brother of Vilhelm Gylche Vilhelm Emanuel Jakob Gylche (6 January 1888 – 18 December 1952) was a Danish track and field athlete who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He is the brother of Karl Paul Kristian Gylche. He was born in Copenhagen Copenhagen .... Buchenwald Concentration Camp
Buchenwald (; literally 'beech forest') was a Nazi concentration camp established on hill near Weimar, Germany, in July 1937. It was one of the first and the largest of the concentration camps within Germany's 1937 borders. Many actual or suspected communists were among the first internees. Prisoners came from all over Europe and the Soviet Union—Jews, Poles and other Slavs, the mentally ill and physically disabled, political prisoners, Romani people, Freemasons, and prisoners of war. There were also ordinary criminals and sexual "deviants". All prisoners worked primarily as forced labor in local armaments factories. The insufficient food and poor conditions, as well as deliberate executions, led to 56,545 deaths at Buchenwald of the 280,000 prisoners who passed through the camp and its 139 subcamps. Deportation Of The Danish Police
During World War II, the Danish government chose to cooperate with the Nazi occupation force. Even though this applied to the Danish police as well, many were reluctant to cooperate. As a result, a large number of members of the Danish police force were deported to Nazi concentration camps in Germany. The Gestapo established the collaborationist HIPO Corps to replace them. April 1940–September 1944 Nazi Germany occupied Denmark on 9 April 1940, and the Danish cabinet decided on a policy of collaboration. This applied to all civil servants, including the entire Danish police force, which began cooperation with its German counterparts. On 12 May 1944, Dr. Werner Best demanded that the Danish police should protect 57 specific enterprises against sabotage from the Danish resistance movement, which was growing in strength. Preben Gylche
Preben Gylche (30 January 1927 – 27 February 1945) was a member of the Danish resistance executed by the German occupying power. He was the son of Karl Paul Kristian Gylche. Biography On 19 September 1944 the German occupation force began their deportation of the Danish police including Gylche's 54-year-old father who within two months died in Buchenwald concentration camp. This undoubtedly influenced Gylche's decision to engage in active resistance. Gylche was wounded in a firefight and arrested by the Gestapo on 8 February 1945 and a court martial subsequently sentenced him to death. On 27 February 1945 Gylche and nine other resistance members were executed in Ryvangen. Vilhelm Emanuel Jakob Gylche (6 January 1888 – 18 December 1952) was a Danish track and field athlete who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He is the brother of Karl Paul Kristian Gylche.
