	Karl Meyer (activist) Karl H. Meyer (born 1937 in West Rupert, Vermont) is an American pacifist, activist, Catholic Worker, and tax resister. He is the son of William H. Meyer, a former member of the United States House of Representatives from Vermont. He is the founder of the Nashville Greenlands Catholic Worker community in Nashville, Tennessee. Life Karl Meyer grew up in West Rupert, Vermont. His father first worked there as a soil-conservation agent, later he became a member of the Congress. In 1953, Karl went to the University of Chicago with a scholarship at the age of only 16. Rather soon, he dropped his study and went to New York City where he worked as a stock clerk at a bookstore. He was Germany's first naval ace, and one of the few German two-seater aces. Biography Karl Meyer was born on 29 January 1894 in Mulhouse, Alsace-Lorraine, then part of the German Empire. 	Karl Meyer (biochemist) Karl Meyer (4 September 1899 – 18 May 1990) was a German biochemist. He worked on connective tissue and determined the properties of hyaluronan in the 1930s. Biography He was born on 4 September 1899 in Kerpen, Germany. Meyer studied medicine and received his Ph.D. from the University of Cologne in 1924. He moved to Berlin and received a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Kaiser Wilhelm Society in 1927. In 1930 Herbert Evans invited Meyer to work as assistant professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He then moved to New York and worked at the Columbia University doing research on hyaluronan. A resident of Teaneck, New Jersey, Meyer died at the age of 90 on May 18, 1990, at a nursing home in nearby Cresskill. He had a history of several big fraud cases against him, although he was acquitted from at least one tax evasion case. His proposed business projects, described in the press as "fantastical", included a "Coney Island"-style amusement park at Hovedøya, and turning the steam-liner RMS ''Carmania'' into a "floating tenement" at the Oslo harbour. In 1927 Meyer founded the fascist party the National Legion. The party's activities mainly included Meyer's rousing speeches at a circus, Cirkus Verdensteatret in Oslo, and at Drammens Theater in Drammen.
