Karl Haffner
Karl Haffner (pseudonym), real name Karl Schlechter, (8 November 1804 – 29 February 1876) was a German dramaturge. Life and work Born in Königsberg, Haffner attended the Collegium Fridericianum. Already at the age of 16 he joined a travelling troupe and as a travelling comedian he passed through Prussia, Saxony, Silesia, Austria and Hungary. After ten years he became a dramatist and playwright at the Pest Theater with Feodor Grimm, after he had already made some dramatic attempts before. In Pest he wrote tragedies like ''The robbery shooters, The curl of the decapitated, Blocks of the grave, Schwarzenberg and Palffy'' and ''Batorys Tod,'' which received the stormy applause of the audience. The well-known theatre director Carl Carl in Vienna strangely recognized Haffner's talent for the local posse in this work and engaged him for nine years for the Theater an der Wien as a theatre poet. Julius Hopp
Julius Hopp (18 May 1819 – 28 August 1885) was an Austrian composer, conductor, arranger and translator. Life and career Born in Graz, Empire of Austria, the son of the actor and poet Friedrich Hopp, Lucius became known in the 1860s and 1870s through his adaptations of Jacques Offenbach's operettas, which were mainly performed in the Theater an der Wien, where Hopp was Kapellmeister. He composed parodies, antics and folk plays and appeared as a translator of French operas and operettas. Heinrich Zschokke
Johann Heinrich Daniel Zschokke (22 March 177127 June 1848) was a German, later Swiss, author and reformer. Most of his life was spent, and most of his reputation earned, in Switzerland. He had an extensive civil service career, and wrote histories, fiction and other works which were widely known. Biography Youth and early career in Prussia Born in Magdeburg, Prussia, he was educated at the monasterial (Kloster) school and at the Altstädter Gymnasium there. He ran away from school at 17, and spent some time as playwright with a company of strolling actors. Later, he studied philosophy, theology and history at the University of Frankfurt (Oder), where in 1792 he established himself as a Privatdozent. Johann Baptist Klerr
Johann Baptist Klerr (15 July 1830 – 27 September 1875) was an Austrian Kapellmeister and composer. Life Born in Baden bei Wien, Klerr was the younger brother of Ludwig Klerr. In 1848 Klerr got an engagement as a musician at the and from there he later went to the city theatre in Bratislava in the same function. From 1856 he worked as a conductor at the Sopron theatre and occasionally worked there with his brother Ludwig. The next stages were Wiener Neustadt, Baden and after a short guest performance in 1858 in Kraków, Klerr was signed on in Budapest. In 1862 he was engaged as Kapellmeister at the Carltheater in Vienna and worked there until 1867 among others also with Franz von Suppé. In 1867, Klerr moved to the Theater an der Wien, also as Kapellmeister. Between 1868 and 1872 and again from 1874 to 1875 Klerr brought together the venues of Baden and Wiener Neustadt as musical director. Josef Pfundheller (22 May 1813 – 26 February 1889) was an Austrian writer and journalist, who also appeared as a playwright of the . Life Born in Vienna, Pfundheller joined the Catholic literary movement in Austria at an early stage, and from 1840 onwards he worked as a journalist for various major Viennese newspapers, such as the ''Österreichische Morgenblatt''. From 1872 he worked as an editor at the Wiener ''Gemeinde-Zeitung'', and in 1886/87 he was publisher and chief editor of the ''Österreichischen Reichsboten''.
