Karl Cummins
Karl Cummins is a New Zealand military officer and was the Commanding Officer of the New Zealand Special Air Service from 2012 to 2013. Nicky Hager
Nicky Hager (born 1958) is a New Zealand investigative journalist. He has produced seven books since 1996, covering topics such as intelligence networks, environmental issues and politics. He is one of two New Zealand members of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. Early life Hager was born in Levin to a middle-class "socially aware" family. His father was from Vienna, Austria, a clothing manufacturer who emigrated to New Zealand as a refugee from the Nazis. His mother was born in Zanzibar (part of Tanzania), where her father studied tropical medicine, and later grew up in Kenya and Uganda. His surname ''Hager'' is pronounced Har-gar, rhyming with ''lager''. Hager studied physics at Victoria University of Wellington, where he also did an honours degree in philosophy. The British War Medal is a campaign medal of the United Kingdom which was awarded to officers and men of British and Imperial forces for service in the First World War. The Military Medal (MM) was a military decoration awarded to personnel of the British Army and other arms of the armed forces, and to personnel of other Commonwealth countries, below commissioned rank, for bravery in battle on land. Queen's Service Medal
The Queen's Service Medal is a medal awarded by the government of New Zealand to recognise and reward volunteer service to the community and also public service in elected or appointed public office. It was established in 1975 and is related to the Queen's Service Order. The QSM replaced the Imperial Service Medal as an award of New Zealand. Appearance 1975–2007 The original medal was made of sterling silver, in diameter. The obverse bears the same effigy of The Queen as the badge of the Queen's Service Order. Surrounding the effigy are the Royal styles and titles "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.". Papakura Military Camp
Papakura Military Camp is a New Zealand Army military camp located in the Auckland suburb of Papakura North, in northern New Zealand. It is the home of the New Zealand Special Air Service. Geography The camp was established on the outskirts of the Papakura Town Centre in 1939 and built by the Stevenson family. and remains an important army base for New Zealand. It incorporates the New Zealand SAS training area and a local suburban area of army homes for personnel on Arimu Road and Russell Avenue in the same vicinity. Until recently, the majority of the homes have now been sold for private use, but the area still remains restricted as a Defence Area. In the early 2000s some land surrounding the camp was set aside for new housing developments by the Papakura District Council.
