The Miss Florida USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Florida in the Miss USA pageant. Up until the 2017 pageant, both Miss and Teen state pageants were held separately in different months. In recent years, the organization was decided that both pageants would compete at the same time from 2018 onwards, just like the most of state pageants in the Miss USA system. While Florida has had number of runners-up, finalists, and semi-finalists, the state has yet to win the Miss USA title. Although Cheryl Patton, who placed 2nd runner-up in Miss USA 1967, became Miss USA after Sylvia Hitchcock won Miss Universe. The most recent placement was Ashley Cariño placed 2nd runner-up in 2021. Two former Miss Florida Teen USA titleholders have won this competition, and three titleholders have also competed at Miss America. Miss America
Miss America is an annual competition that is open to women from the United States between the ages of 17 and 25. Originating in 1921 as a "bathing beauty revue", the contest is now judged on competitors' talent performances and interviews. As of 2018, there is no longer a swimsuit portion to the contest, or consideration of physical appearance. Miss America travels about 20,000 miles a month, changing her location every 24 to 48 hours, touring the nation and promoting her particular platform of interest. Ashley Ann Cariño Barreto (born August 3, 1994) is a Puerto Rican-American model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2022. She represented Puerto Rico at Miss Universe 2022, and is the second Afro-Puerto Rican to win the title, placing at the Top 5. Miss USA 2022 was the 71st Miss USA pageant. The competition was held on October 3, 2022 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada and was broadcast on the FYI cable channel. The competition was hosted by Zuri Hall for the second consecutive year, while Julissa Bermudez and Micah Jesse served as sideline correspondents. Miss USA 2023 will be the 72nd Miss USA pageant that will be held on 2023 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. R'Bonney Gabriel of Texas will crown her successor at the end of the event. Lissette Garcia (born May 3, 1985) is an American television personality and beauty pageant titleholder from Miami, Florida.
