Kariem Hussein
Kariem Hussein (born 4 January 1989) is a Swiss athlete who specialises in the 400 metres hurdles. His first major success was the gold medal at the 2014 European Championships in Zürich. His personal best in the event is 48.45, set at a meeting in Zug in 2015 and again at Weltklasse Zürich in 2017. It is also technically his fastest flat 400m because he has not attempted the distance since 2009 when his PR was 48.58. Hussein was born in Münsterlingen. His father, a former international volleyball player, is Egyptian and his mother is Swiss. Doping On 23 July 2021 he was banned by the Swiss Anti-Doping Agency from competing for 9 months, after a banned substance (nikethamide) was confirmed in the probes taken from him. Athletics was contested at the 2013 Summer Universiade from July 7 to 12 at the Universiade Village Stadium and the Central Stadium in Kazan, Russia. Level of participation and performance was moderate. The proximity of other important athletics competitions like Asian Championships, South American Championships, Central American and Caribbean Championships and European U23 Championships caused many high-profile student-athletes to skip the event. 2012 European Athletics Championships
The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years. The decision to grant the games for Helsinki was made by the European Athletics Congress on 9 November 2009. Another city that showed interest in hosting the event was Nuremberg, Germany, however Helsinki was in pole position during the whole process. This was the third time that the city had hosted the event, 1971 and 1994 being the other occasions.
