Karhu is a Finnish beer brand owned by the Sinebrychoff brewery, part of the Carlsberg Group. ''Karhu'', meaning ''bear'' in Finnish, is a pale lager with a strong taste. The brewing of Karhu began in 1929. , Karhu 4.6% had the sixth largest market share of all Finnish beers sold in shops and Karhu 5.3% the ninth. The original Pori Brewery was bought by Sinebrychoff in 1972. From 2006 the beer has been made in a new brewery in Kerava. The Pori brewery was closed in 2009. ''Lalla Rookh'' was an iron three-masted barque, 841 tons, built in 1876 by R & J Evans and Co. in Liverpool and originally owned by E. C. Friend and Co. In 1905 she was sold to Norwegian owners, and in 1916 her name was changed to ''Effendi''. From March 1923 or 1924 she was based in Finland, renamed ''Karhu'', before reverting to her original name in 1926. She was broken up in Bruges, Belgium, in 1928. She voyaged across the Pacific, to ports in Australasia, and also across the Atlantic Ocean to North and South America. Function The Police Special Intervention Unit was formed as a national police tactical unit in the spring of 1972. It provided security for the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe, held in Helsinki in 1975. According to Finnish law, all counter-terrorist operations are within the jurisdiction of the Police.
