Karen X. Gaylord
Karen X. Gaylord (born Jane Goerner; August 29, 1921 – August 1, 2014) was an American actress and a Miss Minnesota state pageant winner. Early years The daughter of W. C. and Marie Goerner, Gaylord was born Jane Goerner on August 29, 1921. She was born in Milwaukee but grew up in Minneapolis and lived in Devils Lake, North Dakota, for three years. She attended West High School (Minneapolis, Minnesota), West High School in Minneapolis and a junior college in North Dakota. She worked at a bank in Minneapolis and won the Miss Minnesota title in 1942. Career One of the Miss Minnesota judges was Harry Conover, and after she won that title he hired her to work in his modeling agency in New York. ''Night in Paradise'' is a 1946 American comedy-drama film produced by Walter Wanger and directed by Arthur Lubin. In 560 BC King Croesus of Lydia incurs the wrath of the sorceress Queen Attossa he had promised to marry, when he chooses the beautiful Delarai of Persia instead. Attossa, in disembodied form, mocks Croesus nearly to the point of madness, so he seeks a solution from the fortune-teller Aesop, who is very young and handsome, but believes that people only receive wisdom with age, arrived from the Isle of Samos in disguise of an old man with a hunch, a limp, and a cane. But Aesop also has eyes for Delarai. This expensive, lavish Technicolor production of plaster Grecian temples and painted skies was Wanger's second attempt to film the novel, and ended up costing $1.6 million and losing Universal some $800,000. Don McGuire (born Don Rose; February 28, 1919 – April 13, 1999) was an American actor, Film director, director, screenwriter, and producer known for his roles such as playing Congo Bill from DC Comics in the 1948 Congo Bill (serial), ''Congo Bill'' serial. Early years The son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin C. Rose, McGuire graduated from Senn High School, where he participated in four sports. Following studies at the University of Iowa, he played Semi-professional sports, semi-pro baseball in Evansville, Indiana, for a year, after which he began working at a newspaper as a copy boy. He progressed from that job to become a photographer and a reporter. Career McGuire worked at a newspaper in Chicago but left that job to enlist in the Army in 1941. He was a military police first sergeant, serving in the Aleutian Islands until 1944.
