Karen S. Montgomery
Karen Slater Montgomery (born August 23, 1935) is an American politician and artist from the state of Maryland. A Democrat, she served as the state senator for the Maryland State Senate from Maryland's 14th District, which includes parts of Silver Spring, Burtonsville, Olney, Barnesville, Brookeville, Laytonsville, and Damascus in Montgomery County in the Washington, D.C. suburbs. She was elected in 2010 and reelected in 2014. From 2002 to 2010 she served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. She resigned from her senate position on January 1, 2016, because of vision problems that limited her ability to drive at night. Education and professional life Montgomery earned her undergraduate degree from Towson University and later a Master of Fine Arts degree from the George Washington University. Brookeville, Maryland
Brookeville is a town in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located north of Washington, D.C., and north of Olney. Brookeville was settled by Quakers late in the 18th century and was formally incorporated as a town in 1808. Historically part of the local agricultural industry, since the 1950s Brookeville has developed rapidly into a suburban community of Washington, D.C. following the construction of the Georgia Avenue toll road. The population was 134 at the 2010 census. Brookeville is notable as the "United States Capital for a Day" during the War of 1812, when British troops burned Washington D.C., and President James Madison sought refuge in Brookeville on August 26, 1814. Eric Luedtke (born November 13, 1981) is an American politician and educator from Maryland and a member of the Democratic Party. From 2011 to 2023, he served in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 14 in Montgomery County, which includes parts of Burtonsville, Silver Spring, Olney, Sandy Spring, Brookeville, and Damascus. Luedtke served as the House Majority Leader from 2019 and 2023 and as a member of the Ways and Means Committee, and as Chair of the Revenues Subcommittee.
