Karen Malcolm
Karen Malcolm (born 1963) is a politician in the Turks and Caicos Islands. From 2016 to 2021, she was a member of the House of Assembly and the islands' minister of education, youth, culture, social, and library services. Biography Malcolm was born in 1963 in Back Salina, Grand Turk Island. She was raised there and then in the Bahamas, where she was sent to live after her mother died when she was eight years old. She became the first employee from Turks and Caicos of the Bank of Nova Scotia Bahamas, where she worked first in the Bahamas and then back in Turks and Caicos beginning in 1982. In addition to her work as a banker, Malcolm has been involved in several NGOs, including Soroptimist International. Malcolm ran as a member of the People's Democratic Movement in the December 2016 election, winning an at-large seat in the House of Assembly. People's Democratic Movement (Turks And Caicos Islands) Politicians
The People's Democratic Movement is a political party in Papua New Guinea. It was founded by Paias Wingti in 1985, after his faction left the Pangu Party. Wingti served as prime minister from 1985 to 1988 and from 1992 to 1994. He was later replaced as leader by Mekere Morauta who also served as prime minister during his leadership of the PDM from 1999 to 2002. The party won 13 of 109 seats at the 2002 general election. It became the second largest party in Parliament, but the largest party, the National Alliance Party led by Michael Somare formed the government. The PDM joined the opposition in the National Parliament. Josephine Olivia Connolly MHA is a businesswoman and an elected member of the Turks and Caicos Islands House of Assembly. In February 2021 she won her all island seat for the third time and was appointed as a Minister in the new PNP Government. Early life Connolly was born in Turks & Caicos on the island of Salt Cay in 1959. The House of Assembly is the legislature of the British Overseas Territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands. The name of the house was changed from the Legislative Council of the Turks and Caicos Islands to its present name following the implementation of the new constitution on 9 August 2006. The People's Democratic Movement is a political party in the Turks and Caicos Islands founded by James Alexander George Smith McCartney and Lewis Edwin Astwood III. The party is led by the current opposition leader, Edwin Astwood. According to the PDM's website, the People's Democratic Movement (PDM) is the oldest established political organization in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
