Karen Koslowitz
Karen Koslowitz was the Council member for the 29th district of the New York City Council. She is a Democrat. The district includes Forest Hills, Forest Park, Kew Gardens, Rego Park, and Richmond Hill. Life and career Koslowitz's parents immigrated to the United States from Krakow, Poland, settling in the Soundview section of The Bronx. She was raised in the Bronx, where she attended James Monroe High School. She has two daughters, Heidi and Marcia. Koslowitz began her career in the private sector, at Fischbach and Moore, Inc., electrical contractors. She entered public service as a Legislative Aide for Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-NY), and subsequently for New York Council member Arthur Katzman. She then became the full-time Special Assistant and Queens Ombudsman to City Council President Andrew Stein. The New York City Council is the lawmaking body of New York City. It has 51 members from 51 council districts throughout the five Borough (New York City), boroughs. The council serves as a check against the Mayor of New York City, mayor in a mayor-council government model, the performance of city agencies land use decisions, and legislating on a variety of other issues. It also has sole responsibility for approving the city budget. Members elected in or after 2010 are limited to two consecutive four-year terms in office but may run again after a four-year respite; however, members elected before 2010 may seek third successive terms. Soundview, Bronx
Soundview is a neighborhood on the Clason Point peninsula, on the southern section of the borough of the Bronx in New York City. Its boundaries, starting from the north and moving clockwise, are the Cross-Bronx Expressway to the north, White Plains Road to the east, Lacombe Avenue to the south, and the Bronx River to the west. The Bruckner Expressway bisects the neighborhood horizontally along the center and the Bronx River Parkway runs north to south. Soundview Avenue is the primary thoroughfare through Soundview. Michael Cohen (politician)
Michael L. "Mike" Cohen (born July 19, 1949) was a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly, representing the 28th Assembly District in Queens County, New York. A former New York City Transit worker, Cohen was involved in with the transit unions and was elected to the local community board. In 1999 he began his first term in the State Assembly. He resigned from the Assembly effective March 14, 2005. The seat was filled in a special election won by Andrew Hevesi, the son of former New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi. In April 2009, then New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo charged New York Liberal Party leader Raymond Harding with accepting more than $800,000 in exchange for political favors for Alan Hevesi. Harding was also accused of helping arrange a $150,000-a-year position for Cohen with thHealth Insurance Plan of New York (HIP) in order to clear the Assembly seat for a run by Hevesi's son.
