Karen Holliday
Karen Margaret Holliday (née Erikson, born 12 February 1966) is a former New Zealand track cyclist. Biography Holliday was born Karen Margaret Erikson in Nelson on 12 February 1966, and was educated at Nelson College for Girls. In 1985, she married Daryl Holliday, and the couple went on to have three children. Holliday won the world title in the women's points race at the 1990 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Maebashi, and in doing so became the first New Zealander to win a world cycling title. At the same championship she finished fourth in the road race. Holliday also won the 1990 New Zealand women's road race title. In the 1991 New Year Honours, Holliday was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services to cycling. She was named as New Zealand sportswoman of the year for 1990 at the Halberg Awards. Erin Baker
Erin Margaret Baker (born 23 May 1961) is a former New Zealand triathlete. She won many world championship and Ironman titles. Early life Baker was born in 1961 in Kaiapoi, New Zealand. Upon the suggestion by her mother, Mary, Baker began running competitively at age 15 and showed ability right from the start. "I remember the first day Erin competed in a cross-country race. I was waiting for her to come in thinking God, she won't be very pleased because she hasn’t done very well. In fact, I missed her crossing the finish line a quarter of an hour earlier, in first place." Baker is one of eight children. Philippa Baker (rower)
Philippa June Baker (born 12 June 1963), now known by her married name Philippa Baker-Hogan, is a former New Zealand rower and politician. She was the first New Zealand woman to win a gold medal at World Rowing Championships and won gold at world championships on two more occasions. She has twice represented New Zealand at the Olympics. She has received numerous awards for her rowing success and in 2012, she and fellow double sculler Brenda Lawson were inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame. A trained radiographer, she manages her husband's medical practice. She has been a Whanganui District Health Board and Wanganui District Council member since 2004 and 2006, respectively, and was a mayoral candidate in 2010. New Zealand Sports Hall Of Fame
The New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame is an organisation commemorating New Zealand's greatest sporting triumphs. It was inaugurated as part of the New Zealand sesquicentenary celebrations in 1990. Some 160 members have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception representing a wide variety of sports. Inductions are held regularly every second year. Since 1999, it has been located in Dunedin, in the city's Railway Station building, where a museum is sited displaying mementos of New Zealand's sporting achievements. Prior to this time the Hall of Fame was based in Wellington. The current chief executive of the Hall of Fame is sports writer Ron Palenski. After September 2021 the museum could have to close or move to another city unless a new sponsor was found.
