Karen Davies
Karen Davies (born 19 June 1965) is a professional golfer from Wales who formerly played on the LPGA Tour. Amateur career Davies was born in Wrexham, Wales. She gained her first recognition as an amateur golfer when she won the Welsh Girls Championship in 1980 and 1982. She was runner-up in the 1984 Welsh Ladies' Amateur Championship. Davies attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, United States, where she played for coach Mimi Ryan's Florida Gators women's golf team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition from 1985 to 1988. While playing for Florida, she was the individual Southeastern Conference (SEC) champion in 1986, led her Gators team to back-to-back NCAA championships in 1985 and 1986, and set the team record for most collegiate events won with nine. Ping-Cellular One LPGA Golf Championship
The Portland Classic is a women's professional golf tournament in Oregon on the LPGA Tour. Founded in 1972, the annual event in the Portland area is the oldest continuous event on the LPGA Tour. Tournament Golf Foundation has owned the tournament since its beginning and also managed the Safeway International tournament on the LPGA Tour. It became a 72-hole event in 2013, after decades at 54 holes. Proceeds from the tournament are donated to local children's charities; over $19 million has been donated since 1972. The Astor Trophy is a women's team golf tournament between teams of amateurs golfers from Great Britain and Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. It has been played every four years since 1959. From its foundation until 2007 it was called the Commonwealth Trophy. South Africa did not compete from 1963 to 1991. While it was called the Commonwealth Trophy, Irish golfers were not eligible. The trophy was presented by Nancy Astor, Viscountess Astor. Format Each team plays the other four teams. The 1987 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 8–12 July at Turnberry Golf Resort in South Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. It was the 15th women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue The Ailsa Course, situated 80 kilometres south of Glasgow, Scotland, on headland along the Firth of Clyde, overlooking the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig, was initially opened with 13 holes in 1901, designed by Willie Fernie, and later completed to 18 holes. It was redesigned by Mackenzie Ross between 1949 and 1951. The course had previously hosted The Open Championship twice; 1977 and 1986. The championship course was set up with par 73. European Ladies' Team Championship
The European Ladies' Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for women organised by the European Golf Association. The inaugural event was held in 1959. It was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Format Currently, the championship is contested by up to 20 teams, each of 6 players. The format consists of two rounds of strokeplay, out of which the five lowest scores from each team's six players will count each day. The total addition of the five lowest scores will constitute the team's score and determine the teams qualified for the last three rounds of matchplay. Only teams in contention for a medal will play a match format of two foursomes and five singles, while the other teams will play a one foursome and four singles match format.
