Karem Achach
Karem Faride Achach Ramírez (born February 25, 1991) is a Mexican synchronized swimmer. She collected a total of two silver medals each in both the women's duet and team routine at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, and subsequently competed as a member of the Mexican delegation at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro by the following year. There, she and her London 2012 partner Nuria Diosdado scored 86.0667 to hand the Mexican duo an eleventh spot in the women's duet final with 170.9935 total points. Synchronized Swimming
Synchronized swimming (in British English, synchronised swimming) or artistic swimming is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by FINA (the ''Fédération internationale de natation'' or International Swimming Federation). It is traditionally a women's sport, although FINA introduced a new mixed gender duet competition that included one male swimmer in each duet at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and LEN introduced men's individual events at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. Synchronised swimming has been part of the Summer Olympics program since 1984 and now features women's duet and team events. Synchronized Swimming At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Women's Duet
The Women's duet event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, took place at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Center from 14 to 16 August. The preliminary phase consisted of a free routine, then a technical routine with required elements. The scores from the two routines were added together and the top twelve duets qualified for the final. The final repeated the same free routine and the score from the final free routine was added to the score from the preliminary technical routine to decide the overall winners. The medals were presented by Nicole Hoevertsz, IOC member, Aruba and Qiuping Zhang, Bureau Member of FINA. Qualification A total of twenty four duets qualified for the event. The eight National Olympic Committees (NOC) qualified for the team competition were automatically awarded a place for duets.
