Karel Satsuit Tubun
Karel Satsuit Tubun (also written as Karel Sadsuitubun; 14 October 1928 – 1 October 1965) was an Indonesian police officer and national hero. A bodyguard for deputy prime minister Johannes Leimena, he was killed while on duty in a scuffle by communists during the 1965 coup d'état. Karel Satsuit Tubun was born in Tual, Southeast Maluku, on 14 October 1928. He became a police officer, participating in Operation Trikora, and after the transfer of West Irian, he became a bodyguard for deputy prime minister Johannes Leimena. As a bodyguard, he was promoted to the rank of Police Brigadier. On 30 September 1965, communist rebels planned to kidnap and kill members of the armed forces in a coup d'état, including Major General Abdul Haris Nasution, who was in the house next to Leimena's. During the commotion, Tubun woke up and attempted to shoot the rebels. However, he was shot at, and died instantly. Johannes Leimena
Johannes Leimena (Often abbreviated as J. Leimana; 6 March 1905 – 29 March 1977), more colloquially referred to as Om Jo, was an Indonesian politician, physician, and national hero. He was one of the longest-serving government ministers in Indonesia, and was the longest-serving under President Sukarno. He filled the roles of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health. An Ambonese Christian, he served in the People's Representative Council and the Constitutional Assembly during the 1950's, and was the chairman of the Indonesian Christian Party from 1951 until 1960. Leimena was born in Ambon, Maluku, but he grew up in Cimahi and later Batavia (today Jakarta). He became involved in Indonesian nationalist movements through the Ambonese youth group ''Jong Ambon'', and he took part in the two Youth Congresses in 1926 and 1928. Karel Sadsuitubun Airport
Karel Sadsuitubun Airport is an airport located in Kai Islands, Southeast Maluku Regency, Maluku, Indonesia, replacing the old Dumatubin Airport which is now used only by the Indonesian Air Force. It serves both the city of Tual and the Langgur. The airport is named in honor of Karel Satsuit Tubun (1928–1965), who is a National Hero of Indonesia. The airport serves as the point of entry to Kai Islands, which contains many tourist spot such as untouched beaches which contain crystal clear water. Construction of the airport started in 2006 and after extensive delay, it was completed in 2013. The airport was inaugurated by former Minister of Transportation, Ignasius Jonan on Friday 19 December 2014. Frigate
A frigate () is a type of warship. In different eras, the roles and capabilities of ships classified as frigates have varied somewhat. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and maneuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. General of the Army Abdul Haris Nasution ( Old Spelling: Abdoel Haris Nasution; 3 December 1918 – 6 September 2000), was a high-ranking Indonesian general and politician. He served in the military during the Indonesian National Revolution and he remained in the military during subsequent turmoil of the Parliamentary democracy and Guided Democracy. Western New Guinea, also known as Papua, Indonesian New Guinea, or Indonesian Papua, is the western half of the Melanesian island of New Guinea which is administered by Indonesia. New York Agreement
The New York Agreement is an agreement signed by the Netherlands and Indonesia regarding the administration of the territory of Western New Guinea. The first part of the agreement proposes that the United Nations assume administration of the territory, and a second part proposes a set of social conditions that will be provided if the United Nations exercises a discretion proposed in article 12 of the agreement to allow Indonesian occupation and administration of the territory.
