Karbala Sports City
Karbala International Stadium ( ar, ملعب كربلاء الدولي) is the largest sports stadium in the city of Karbala and the middle-Euphrates area. It can accommodate more than 30 thousand spectators and was opened on 12 May 2016. Description Karbala International Stadium's construction started in January 2013 and the construction was at an overall cost of $100,000,000 funded by the government of Iraq. It is a grass surfaced football (soccer) arena with a total area of 34,000m2. It can seat up to 30,000 spectators and has other sports-related facilities. The height of the roof raises to about 35 metres. The stadium does not have an athletics track, allowing spectators to enjoy an optimal visual experience. Karbala or Kerbala ( ar, كَرْبَلَاء, Karbalāʾ , , also ;) is a city in central Iraq, located about southwest of Baghdad, and a few miles east of Lake Milh, also known as Razzaza Lake. Karbalaa FC
Karbala Sport Club is an Iraqi football club based in Karbala that plays in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of Iraqi football. SWAT Incident On June 23, 2013, after a match against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, seven football players of Karbala FC and their coach were beaten by the anti-terror police. They used sticks and batons against the coach and his players. Five of them were in critical condition, and on the 30th of June, Mohammed Al-Jaboury, coach of Karbala FC has died in hospital. The 2007 AFC Asian Cup was the 14th edition of the men's AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). 2019 WAFF Championship
The 2019 West Asian Football Federation Championship, also called Asiacell WAFF Championship Iraq 2019 due to sponsorship by Asiacell, was the 9th edition of the WAFF Championship, an international tournament for member nations of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF). It was hosted in Iraq for the first time, in the cities of Karbala and Erbil. The tournament was meant to be held from 8 to 17 December 2017 in Amman, Jordan, but was postponed to a later date, and subsequently moved to Iraq on 21 May 2018. It was then expected to be held in November 2018, but yet again postponed to July–August 2019.
