A Turkish name consists of an ''ad'' or an ''isim'' (given name; plural ''adlar'' and ''isimler'') and a ''soyadı'' or ''soyisim'' (surname). Turkish names exist in a "full name" format. While there is only one ''soyadı'' (surname) in the full name there may be more than one ''ad'' (given name). Married women may carry both their maiden and husband's surnames. The ''soyadı'' is written as the last element of the full name, after all given names (except that official documents related to registration matters often use the format "Soyadı, Adı"). Hacı Karay
Hacı Karay (1950 – June 1994) was a Turkish person of Kurdish descent. He was born in Yüksekova, Hakkari, to Fehim Karay (father). On 13 February 1993, he participated in the action of closing shops in Yüksekova in support of the hunger strikes staged at Diyarbakır Prison. He had connections to Savaş Buldan. Along with fellow businessmen Savaş Buldan and Adnan Yıldırım, he was abducted by armed persons from Çınar Hotel in Yeşilyurt, İstanbul, on 3 June 1994. The abducted persons were found dead on 4 June 1994 on the road of Yukarıkaraş village of Yığılca district in Bolu. In March 1995, his sisters Gülcan and Gülsen Karay traveled to a rural area in southeastern Turkey to join the PKK. Refik Halit Karay
Refik Halit Karay (15 March 1888 – 18 July 1965) was a Turkish educator, writer and journalist. Biography He was born in Beylerbeyi, İstanbul, on 14 March 1888. His parents were Mehmed Halid Bey and Nefise Ruhsar Hanım. After studying at Galatasaray High School and Istanbul University Faculty of Law, he briefly served in the Ministry of Finance of the Ottoman Empire. During the Second Constitutional Era in 1908 he resigned from his post and published a short-living newspaper. He also wrote in literary periodicals. Being an opponent of the Committee of Union and Progress he was exiled to several cities in Anatolia. After returning to İstanbul he wrote mainly on Anatolian life style. He was a pioneer in Anatolian based literature. He attended the Freedom and Accord Party. During the reign of the Freedom and Accord Party he served as the teacher of Literature in Robert College and then the General Director of Turkish PTT.
