Ayşe Işıl Karakaş (born December 8, 1958) is a Turkish academic, professor of law, and former judge at the European Court of Human Rights in respect of the Republic of Turkey. Career In 1983, she graduated from the Department of Political Science of Istanbul University, and between 1984 and 1993, she worked as a research assistant in the same institution. In 1986, she gained her first master's degree in Public Law, Istanbul University. In 1986, she gained her second master's degree in the field of European Law at the Centre Européen Universitaire at the Nancy II University. Nonna M. Karakashyan (née Nonna M. Avanesova; hy, Նոննա Կարակաշյան; born February 13, 1940) was the first Armenian woman awarded with FIDE title of International Arbiter (1992). She is a chess player and coach. Her last name may also be spelled as Karakashian. Nonna Karakashyan was a student of Honoured Trainer Suren Abramian. She was three-time women chess champion of Azerbaijan (1961,1963,1964) and national team member in 1955–1964. She earned a Bachelor in Engineering degree. Yeranuhi Karakashian ( hy, Երանուհի Գարագաշյան; 1848 in Uskudar, Ottoman Empire - 1924 in Tiflis, Georgia) was an ethnic Armenian actress. Biography Yeranuhi Karakashian was born in 1848 in Üsküdar, a district of Constantinople (Istanbul) that is situated on the Asiatic side of the Bosphorus. She was the older sister of actress and soprano Verkine Karakashian (1856 - 1933). She attended the local elementary school. Her first theatrical performance was in 1864 at the Oriental Theater (Şark Tiyatrosu) starring in the ''Drtad the Great'' play. She then was accepted into Gullu Agop's theatrical group. Verkine Karakashian (1856–1933) was an Ottoman-Armenian actress and soprano. Verkine Karakashian was born in Constantinople, today Istanbul, in 1856. She was the younger sister of actress Yeranuhi Karakashian. She debuted on the stage at Aziziye Theater in Üsküdar, Istanbul in 1869. Firstly, she entered the theater company of Güllü Agop. Mike Karakas
Michael George Karakas (November 13, 1910 – May 2, 1992) was an American professional ice hockey goaltender in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was the league's first American-born and -trained goaltender and the first player of Greek descent. Karakas played six full seasons and parts of two others with the Chicago Black Hawks and appeared in two Stanley Cup Finals, winning once. In 1938, he led Chicago, who had a .411 winning percentage in the regular season, to a second Stanley Cup, playing with a steel-toed boot on one foot in the last two games of the Finals after he had broken it in the last game of the Semi-finals. Hedvig Karakas (born 21 February 1990) is a Hungarian judoka. She is a World Championship bronze medalist, and multi-time European medalist (silver in 2015, and bronze in 2009 and 2010). She competed in the women's 57 kg event at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. She also competed in the women's 57 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan.
