Hedvig Karakas
Hedvig Karakas (born 21 February 1990) is a Hungarian judoka. She is a World Championship bronze medalist, and multi-time European medalist (silver in 2015, and bronze in 2009 and 2010). She competed in the women's 57 kg event at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. She also competed in the women's 57 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. In 2009, she won bronze at the World Championships, and the gold medal at the World Junior Championships. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she beat Concepción Bellorín by uchi-mata, then beat future Olympic gold medalist Rafaela Silva, before losing to Corina Căprioriu. Because Căprioriu reached the final, Karakas was entered into the repechage. There she beat Irina Zabludina Irina Zabludina (born 24 February 1987) is a Russian judoka. Mike Karakas
Michael George Karakas (November 13, 1910 – May 2, 1992) was an American professional ice hockey goaltender in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was the league's first American-born and -trained goaltender and the first player of Greek descent. Karakas played six full seasons and parts of two others with the Chicago Black Hawks and appeared in two Stanley Cup Finals, winning once. In 1938, he led Chicago, who had a .411 winning percentage in the regular season, to a second Stanley Cup, playing with a steel-toed boot on one foot in the last two games of the Finals after he had broken it in the last game of the Semi-finals.
