Kanwal, New South Wales
Kanwal is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the local government area and is approximately 90 km north of Sydney, 55 km south of Newcastle and 6 km west of the Pacific Ocean. History The area now known as Kanwal was a subdivision of Warnervale. ''Kanwal'' is said to mean "snakes indeed" in a local Aboriginal language. Landmarks The dominating feature of Kanwal is the Wyong Rugby League Club to the northeast of the suburb. It is home to the Wyong Roos, a rugby league football club, three sporting ovals, two netball courts and a youth and community centre. There are several parks in Kanwal including Craigie Park to the east facing onto Tuggerah Lake, a wetland area to the northwest and another sporting oval to the south separate from the Rugby League Club. Central Coast (New South Wales)
The Central Coast is a peri-urban region in New South Wales, Australia, lying on the Tasman Sea coast to the north of Sydney and south of Newcastle. The local government area of the Central Coast Council has an estimated population of 333,627 as of June 2018, growing by 1% annually. Comprising localities such as Gosford, Wyong and Terrigal, the area is the third-largest urban area in New South Wales and the ninth-largest urban area in Australia. William Dobell
Sir William Dobell (24 September 189913 May 1970) was an Australian portrait and landscape artist of the 20th century. Dobell won the Archibald Prize, Australia's premier award for portrait artists on three occasions. The Dobell Prize is named in his honour. Career Dobell was born in Cooks Hill, a working-class neighbourhood of Newcastle, New South Wales in Australia to Robert Way Dobell and Margaret Emma (née Wrightson). His father was a builder and there were six children. Dobell's artistic talents were evident early. In 1916, he was apprenticed to Newcastle architect, Wallace L. Porter and in 1924 he moved to Sydney as a draftsman. In 1925, he enrolled in evening art classes at the Sydney Art School (which later became the Julian Ashton Art School), with Henry Gibbons as his teacher. Westfield Tuggerah is a large shopping centre in the suburb of Tuggerah on the Central Coast. It is the second largest shopping centre on the Central Coast after Erina Fair. Wyong Railway Station
Wyong railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the northern Central Coast suburb of Wyong. History Wyong station was opened on 15 August 1887. In 1912, the line was duplicated. In 1937, the eastern platform was converted to an island platform. A pair of passing loops were added south of the station in 1948. In the 1950s, a new bridge was built over Wyong Creek immediately south of the station, with the old railway bridge becoming part of the Pacific Highway. Between April 1982 and June 1984, Wyong was the northern extremity of the electrified network. A brick building on Platforms 1 and 2 was replaced by the current structure in the 1990s.
