Hausa-language cinema, known informally as Kannywood, is the Hausa-language film industry of Northern Nigeria. It is based in Kano. Kannywood Kannywood is the sobriquet for Hausa-language cinema. It is a part of the larger Nigerian cinema, known as Nollywood, which includes other production centres producing films in many other Nigerian languages. The name "Kannywood" is a portmanteau derived from Kano and Hollywood, the center of the American film industry. "Kannywood" has origins in the late 1990s, when Sunusi Shehu of ''Tauraruwa Magazine'' created the term Kannywood and then it became the popular reference term for the industry in the Northern Nigeria. The term "Kannywood" was coined in 1999, three years before the term Nollywood came about. Nura Musa Inuwa also called ''M Inuwa'' (born 18 September 1989) is a Hausa musician, artist and film producer. He was born, raised and educated in Kano State in the town of Gwammaja in Dala Local Government Area, Kano. Career Most of his songs were used in Kannywood films. He has over 500 songs. Usman Baba Pategi, known mostly as ''Samanja'' Mazan Fama (born 20 May, 1942) is a retired Nigerian Army. Together with Yusuf Ladan, Mamman Ladan and Idi Jibril an NTA staff introduced the Hausa comedy known now as Kannywood, Northern Nigerian films or Hausa films in 80s to the Northern audience. Biography Pategi was born on May 20, 1942, into the royal house of Pategi Emirate in Pategi, Northern Nigeria. He is the son of Etsu Usman Patako late King of Pategi.
