	Felix Philipp Kanitz Felix Philipp Kanitz ( he, פליקס פיליפ קאניץ. 2 August 1829 – 8 January 1904) was an Austro-Hungarian naturalist, geographer, ethnographer, archaeologist, painter and author of travel notes, of Jewish heritage. Biography Kanitz was born in Pest to a rich Jewish family and enrolled in art in the University of Vienna in 1846, at the age of seventeen.He travelled extensively after 1850, visiting Germany, France, Belgium and Italy. He settled in Vienna in 1856 and undertook a journey to Dalmatia in the Balkans in 1858, which marked the beginning of his thorough research of the South Slavs. Apart from Dalmatia, he also visited Herzegovina, Bosnia, Kingdom of Montenegro, Serbia and Bulgaria. He worked on the topic until 1889, the knowledge he gathered being evaluated as particularly important for the period. 	Otto Felix Kanitz Otto Felix Kanitz ( 5 February 1894, in Vienna; 29 March 1940, in Buchenwald) was an Austrian socialist, journalist and educator. He was also part of the 'Schönbrunner Circle' ( Schönbrunner Kreis). Childhood Kanitz was born as the third of four children of Jewish parents. After his parents divorced in 1902, the three sons stayed with the father whilst the daughter was adjudged to the mother. When the father converted to Catholicism and took a catholic wife, one year later, the sons were baptized as well, but soon given to an orphanage in order to not disturb their stepmother. Young Kanitz had five years of primary school and three years of secondary school before starting an apprenticeship. 	August Wilhelm Graf Von Kanitz Graf August Karl Wilhelm von Kanitz (29 October 1783 – 22 May 1852) was a Prussian Lieutenant General and was also the Minister of War from 26 April to 16 June 1848 (without party affiliation) in the Camphausen- Hansemann government. Kanitz became an officer-cadet in 1798, and an Ensign one year later. In 1801 he was made a Second Lieutenant. In 1806 he took part in the Battle of Jena-Auerstedt. In 1810 he was promoted to First Lieutenant and to ''Stabskapitän'' in 1811. In 1812 Kanitz received the Pour le Mérite award. In 1813-14 he took part in the War of the Sixth Coalition. 	August Kanitz August Kanitz (25 April 1843, in Lugos – 12 July 1896, in Kolozsvár) was a Hungarian botanist. While a student at the University of Vienna he wrote ''Geschichte der Botanik in Ungarn'' (Hanover and Budapest, 1863), and soon after, ''Versuch einer Geschichte der Ungarischen Botanik'' (Halle, 1865). In 1866 he published a work on the flora of Slavonia, in 1877 he published a work on the flora of Montenegro, Bosnia, and Serbia and in 1879 one on that of Romania. For the last-named work he was elected (1880) a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and was made Knight of the Order of the Crown of Romania. He converted to Christianity. 	Dolní Kounice Dolní Kounice (; german: Kanitz) is a town in Brno-Country District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,500 inhabitants. Geography Dolní Kounice is situated about south of Brno in the valley of the Jihlava (river), Jihlava River. It lies in the Bobrava Highlands. History The first written mention of Kounice is from 1183, when a Premonstratensians, Premonstratensian ''Rosa coeli'' convent was built here.
