Its boundaries were created in March 2002 for the “long established name” which is derived from Kangaroo Head, a headland located within the locality. As of 2015, Kangaroo Head consists generally of a strip of land located between the Hog Bay Road and the coastline with Backstairs Passage and Nepean Bay. The majority land use in the locality is agriculture. Dudley Peninsula
Dudley Peninsula (known as Presquila Gallissoniere and as the MacDonnell Peninsula from 1857 to 1986) is the peninsula forming the eastern end of Kangaroo Island in the Australian state of South Australia. It was occupied by Aboriginal Australians as recently as 3,100 years BP but was found to be unoccupied by the first European explorers to visit it in the early 19th century. It was first settled by Europeans as early as the 1830s. As of 2011, it had a population of 595 people. Extent Dudley Peninsula is the eastern end of Kangaroo Island. American Beach, South Australia
__NOTOC__ American Beach is a locality in South Australia on the north coast of the Dudley Peninsula on Kangaroo Island, overlooking Nepean Bay, about south-west of Adelaide. The name is derived from the nearby beach of the same name. The locality is zoned for conservation purposes with the view of providing limited built development intended principally for tourism uses, which has a minimal impact and where provided, complements the environment of the locality. The gazetted locality boundaries were created in March 2002. As of 2015, it consists of a strip of land located between the coastline with Nepean Bay and the Hog Bay Road. It is “not to be confused with the former American Beach Estate subdivision” which was also gazetted in 2002 as Baudin Beach. Mawson is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It covers the entirety of Kangaroo Island, and parts of the local government areas of Alexandrina Council, the City of Onkaparinga, and the District Council of Yankalilla. Major localities in the district include Cape Jervis, Kingscote, McLaren Vale, Port Willunga, Sellicks Beach, Willunga and Yankalilla. The Division of Mayo is an Australian electoral division located to the east and south of Adelaide, South Australia. Created in the state redistribution of 3 September 1984, the division is named after Helen Mayo, a social activist and the first woman elected to an Australian University Council. Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island, also known as Karta Pintingga (literally 'Island of the Dead' in the language of the Kaurna people), is Australia's third-largest island, after Tasmania and Melville Island.
