Kandiah Ulaganathan
Kandiah Ulaganathan, also known as Colonel Ramanan, was a senior commander of the Tamil Tigers, and was the number two in the Tamil Tiger military wing and its chief intelligence operative in the eastern region. He was from Palukamam, Batticaloa District, Sri Lanka. Early life Ulganathan was born in 1966 in Palugaamam to a family of farmers. He studied at the Kandumani Maha Vidyalam. He joined the LTTE in 1986, a year before his brother joined. His brother was killed in a skirmish with the IPKF in 1987. Death Colonel Ramanan was killed by a sniper along Vavunathivu forward defence line on 21 May 2006. Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) ( ta, தமிழ் மக்கள் விடுதலைப்புலிகள், en, Tamil Peoples Liberation Tigers), previously known as the "Karuna Group", is a political party in Sri Lanka. It was formed by Karuna Amman (Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan), a former leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, after he defected from the organization in 2004. Initially a paramilitary group that helped the Sri Lankan Government fight the Tamil Tigers, the TMVP was registered as a political party in 2007. IPKF
Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) was the Indian military contingent performing a peacekeeping operation in Sri Lanka between 1987 and 1990. It was formed under the mandate of the 1987 Indo-Sri Lankan Accord that aimed to end the Sri Lankan Civil War between Sri Lankan Tamil militant groups such as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Sri Lankan military. The main task of the IPKF was to disarm the different militant groups, not just the LTTE. It was to be quickly followed by the formation of an Interim Administrative Council. These were the tasks as per the terms of the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord, signed at the behest of Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Given the escalation of the conflict in Sri Lanka, and with the pouring of refugees into India, Rajiv Gandhi took the decisive step to push this accord through.
