Kamuran Gürün
Kamuran Gürün (1924 – 20 July 2004) was a Turkish diplomat. Kamuran Gürün was born in Istanbul in 1924. He studied at Galatasaray High School's School of Political Science and at Ankara University's Faculty of Political Sciences. In 1948, he entered the Foreign Ministry. After serving in various internal and external posts of the Ministry, he was appointed Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, serving between 1963-1967. In addition, he was appointed to the newly established Inter-Ministerial Economic Committee of the General Secretariat. In 1967 he was appointed as ambassador to Bucharest. In the same year he married Gencay Gurun. In 1970 he became a member of the OECD Permanent Delegation. In 1972, he was appointed to the Turkish Embassy in Athens. In 1976 he returned to the headquarters of the High Counsel. Galatasaray High School
Galatasaray High School ( tr, Galatasaray Lisesi, french: Lycée de Galatasaray), established in what was then Constantinople and is now Istanbul, in 1481, is the oldest high school in Turkey. It is also the second-oldest Turkish educational institution after Istanbul University, which was established in 1453. The name ''Galatasaray'' means ''Galata Palace'', as the school is located at the far end of Galata, the medieval Genoese enclave above the Golden Horn in what is now the district of Beyoğlu. Central Treaty Organization
The Middle East Treaty Organization (METO), also known as the Baghdad Pact and subsequently known as the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO), was a military alliance of the Cold War. It was formed in 24 February 1955 by Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. The alliance was dissolved in 16 March 1979. US pressure and promises of military and economic aid were key in the negotiations leading to the agreement, but the United States could not initially participate. John Foster Dulles, who was involved in the negotiations as United States Secretary of State under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, claimed that was due to "the pro-Israel lobby and the difficulty of obtaining Congressional Approval." Armenian Genocide
The Armenian genocide was the systematic destruction of the Armenian people and identity in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Spearheaded by the ruling Committee of Union and Progress (CUP), it was implemented primarily through the mass murder of around one million Armenians during death marches to the Syrian Desert and the forced Islamization of Armenian women and children. Zincirlikuyu Cemetery
__NOTOC__ The Zincirlikuyu Cemetery ( tr, Zincirlikuyu Mezarlığı) is a modern burial ground residing on the European part of Istanbul, Turkey. It is administered by the Metropolitan Municipality. Many prominent figures from the world of politics, business, sports and arts rest here. The cemetery is located on the Büyükdere Avenue in Zincirlikuyu, Şişli district between Esentepe and Levent neighborhoods. It is Istanbul's first cemetery established in a contemporary structure.
