Kammersänger
Kammersänger (male) or Kammersängerin (female), abbreviated Ks. or KS, is a German honorific title for distinguished singers of opera and classical music. It literally means "chamber singer". Historically, the title was bestowed by princes or kings, when it was styled ''Hofkammersänger(in)'', where ''hof'' refers to the royal court. The title is given in Germany and in Austria usually on the recommendation of relevant national and local institutions. In East Germany, some concert halls bestowed this designation. Linda Watson (soprano)
Linda Watson (born 1956) is an American dramatic soprano and academic voice teacher. She made her career based in Germany where she studied and began as a mezzo-soprano at the Theater Aachen. She has performed worldwide, including at the Vienna State Opera, La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera and the Bayreuth Festival. She focused on dramatic roles by Wagner, including Brünnhilde and Isolde, and Strauss, including Ariadne and the Dyer's Wife. Wilma Schmidt
Wilma Schmidt (27 June 1926 – 18 June 2022), also known as Wilma Schmidt-Liebethal, was a German operatic soprano. She performed for five decades in leading roles at the Staatsoper Hannover, and appeared as a guest at other opera houses and the Bayreuth Festival. Her broad repertoire included the Countess in Mozart's ''Figaro'', Agathe in Weber's ''Der Freischütz'', Elisabetta in Verdi's '' Don Carlo'' alongside Hans-Dieter Bader, Elisabeth in Wagner's ''Tannhäuser'', and her favourite role, the Marschallin in '' Der Rosenkavalier'' by Richard Strauss. Career Schmidt was born on 27 June 1926. She was trained by Laurenz Hofer as a spinto soprano (''jugendlich-dramatischer Sopran''). Hans-Dieter Bader
Hans-Dieter Bader (16 February 1938 – 18 June 2022) was a German operatic tenor. He performed for decades in leading roles as both a dramatic and a lyrical tenor at the Staatsoper Hannover. He appeared in around 90 operatic roles, as well as in concert and oratorio. His recordings include the operas ''Feuersnot'' by Richard Strauss and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari's '' Sly'', and the concert premiere of Max Reger's unfinished Dies irae. Career Bader was born on 16 February 1938 and raised in Stuttgart. He was initially apprenticed to learn tool making. He studied voice with Rudolf Gehrung, and made his stage debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart in 1960 as Arturo in Donizetti's ''Lucia di Lammermoor''. Claudia Mahnke
Claudia Mahnke is a German operatic mezzo-soprano, a member of the Oper Frankfurt, with guest appearances at leading opera houses and the Bayreuth Festival. Career Mahnke was born in Meerane in Saxony, Germany. While she attended school she was already taking voice lessons. After the Abitur, she studied voice at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. She made her stage debut in 1991, still during her studies. Theo Adam
Theo Adam (1 August 1926 – 10 January 2019) was a German operatic bass-baritone and bass singer who had an international career in opera, concert and recital from 1949. He was a member of the Staatsoper Dresden for his entire career, and sang at the Bayreuth Festival from 1952 to 1980. He particularly excelled in portraying roles by Richard Wagner, especially Wotan in ''Der Ring des Nibelungen'', which he also performed at the Metropolitan Opera, among others. In concert, he was a much admired Bach singer and also drew acclaim for his interpretation of the title character of Mendelssohn's ''Elijah''. He was a voice teacher at the Musikhochschule Dresden. Doris Soffel (born 12 May 1948, Hechingen, Germany) is a German mezzo-soprano. Doris Soffel first played the violin, then switched to singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
