Kalungu is a town in Kalehe Territory, South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Kalungu is a business center. Kalungu is located on the Goma-Bukavu highway. Located in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Kalungu has known all sort of wars caused by armed groups in the DRC. A recent war, waged by Nkunda and Mutebusi, destroyed Kalungu center and caused its people to flee to neighboring villages like Bwisha, Mpumbi, Makelele Nyamasasa, Ruhunde, and Nyakalende on the shores of Lake Kivu. Kalehe Territory
Kalehe Territory is a territory in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its administrative centre is the town of Kalehe on the western shore of Lake Kivu. Other important towns include Buguli, Bunyakiri, Kalangala, Kalungu, Minova, and Nyamasasa. Geography Kalehe Territory is located in the far eastern Congo on the western shores of Lake Kivu. South Kivu (''Jimbo la Kivu Kusini'' in Swahili), (french: Sud-Kivu) is one of 26 provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its capital is Bukavu. Laurent Nkunda (or Laurent Nkundabatware Mihigo (birth name), or Laurent Nkunda Batware, or as he prefers to be called The Chairman; born February 2, 1967) is a former General in the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and is the former warlord (leader of a rebel faction) operating in the province of Nord-Kivu, sympathetic to Congolese Tutsis and the Tutsi-dominated government of neighbouring Rwanda. Jules Mutebusi
Jules Mutebutsi, also known as Jules Mutebusi and Jules Mutebuzi, (c. 1960 – 9 May 2014) was a Congolese military person and rebel leader of the Rally for Congolese Democracy. He has been often described as a Rwandan proxy. Mutebutsi was captured in 2004 and was put on trial for treason. He was soon sentenced to exile. He would remain in exile until his death in 2014. Career Mutebutsi was a Munyamulenge from South Kivu Province. On 26 May 2004 Mutebutsi together with Laurent Nkunda captured the city of Bukavu. Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes. It lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. Havu Language
Havu (or Haavu or Kihavu) is a Bantu language of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is spoken mainly in the Idjwi and Kalehe territories of Sud-Kivu Province, in the east of the DRC. It is closely related to the Shi language. The Havu language is also spoken in the city of Goma, north of the island. Swahili, also known by its local name , is the native language of the Swahili people, who are found primarily in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique (along the East African coast and adjacent litoral islands).
