Monteswar
Monteswar is a village situated in Manteswar CD block in Kalna subdivision of Purba Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History Most of the area between the Damodar and the Ajay, largely covering the later day Shergarh, Selimpur and Senpahari parganas, was broadly known as Gopbhum, where the Sadgop kings ruled for a long time, prior to the advent of the Muslims. They ruled from Amrargar and branched out to Bharatpur (on the bank of the Damodar) and Kanksa. The Sura kings occupy a somewhat mythical position in the region. It is estimated that they ruled between the late 4th century to around 11th century. They were believed to be based in Singheswar (in the northern Rarh region) and Gar Mandaran. One branch of the family was based in what is now Purba Bardhaman district. Purbasthali
Purbasthali is a village with a police station and a rail station in Purbasthali II CD block in Kalna subdivision of Purba Bardhaman district. It is located 120 km north from Kolkata. Also known as Chupi Char, it lies on the banks of a large oxbow lake created by the Ganges river and is only 8 km from the old and holy town of Nabadwip. Nadanghat
Nadanghat is a village, with a police station, in the Purbasthali I CD block in Kalna subdivision of Purba Bardhaman district in West Bengal, India. History The Syeds were famed zemindars of the area during Muslim rule and they continued during the British period. When the Muslim League was formed in Dhaka in 1906, it did not have much of an influence in Bardhaman district. Most of the Muslim leaders were with the Congress. In 1919, when Mahatma Gandhi launched the Khilafat movement and followed it up with a non-cooperation movement, Harihar Sen, played an important role in the area. In order to combat the famine of 1943, food committees were formed in Bardhaman district. The Kalna subdivisional conference was organised with great difficulty at Nadanghat. Haragobinda Rej, Talukdar Sheikh, Abodh Bihari Pandey and Abdul Hasnat played important roles in the movement.
