Kalmakanda ( bn, কলমাকান্দা), originally Karamakhanda, is an upazila of Netrokona District in the Division of Mymensingh Division, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Geography Kalmakanda is located at . It has 39275 households in total area 377.41 km2. Demographics According to 2011 Bangladesh census, Kalmakanda had a population of 217,912. Males constituted 49.61% of the population and females 50.39%. Muslims formed 85.48% of the population, Hindus 11.18%, Christians 3.17%, and others 0.18%. Kalmakanda had a literacy rate of 36.58% for the population 7 years and above. As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Kalmakanda has a population of 209,360. Males make up 50.99% of the population, and females 49.01%. The over 18 population of Upazila numbers 103,227. Kalmakanda has an average literacy rate of 21.4% (7+ years); the national average is 32.4%. Netrokona-1 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2019 by Manu Majumdar of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Durgapur Upazila, Netrokona, Durgapur and Kalmakanda Upazila, Kalmakanda upazilas. Netrokona District
Netrokona ( bn, নেত্রকোণা) is a district of the Mymensingh Division in northern Bangladesh. Etymology The headquarters of Netrokona District was located at the end of the Mogra River and was called Natorkona. Many people believe that over a period of time, Natorkona became Netrakona. Geography Netrokona is situated in the northern part of Bangladesh, along the border with the Indian state of Meghalaya. There are five main rivers in Netrokona: Kangsha, Someshawri, Dhala, Magra, and Teorkhali. It is a part of the Surma-Meghna River System. Much of the district becomes a haor during the monsoon. 2011 Bangladesh Census
In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census. Mustaque Ahmed Ruhi
Mustaque Ahmed Ruhi (born 19 June 1974) is a Public Figure and incumbent member of Parliament from Netrokona-1. In 2008, he was elected as a member of the Bangladesh Awami League nominee in the general election. He is a former AGS and VP consecutively of Ananda Mohan College Central Students Union(AMUCSU) Early life Ruhi was born on 19 June 1974. Union council ( bn, ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ, translit=iūniyan pariṣad, translit-std=IAST), also known as union parishad, rural council, rural union and simply union, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh.
