"Kalinka" (russian: Калинка) is a Russian folk song written in 1860 by the composer and folklorist Ivan Larionov and first performed in Saratov as part of a theatrical entertainment that he had composed. Soon it was added to the repertory of a folk choral group. Song The refrain of the song refers to the ''kalinka'', which is the snowball tree ''(Viburnum opulus)''. It has a speedy tempo and light-hearted lyrics. The main refrain (Kalinka, Kalinka ...) increases in tempo each time it is sung. Kalinka Bamberski Case
The ''Kalinka Bamberski case'' has spanned 30 years and has caused considerable publicity because of the issues of French-German relations and vigilante justice it raised. Kalinka Bamberski, a French teenager, died in 1982 in the house of her German stepfather, Dieter Krombach, a serial rapist and former physician. Suspicious autopsy results caused the girl's French father André Bamberski to pressure German authorities into investigating Krombach's involvement in the death. When Germany closed the case and denied extradition to France, Krombach was tried ''in absentia'' in France and convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 1995, a verdict later overturned by the European Court of Human Rights on procedural grounds. In 2009, Bamberski had Krombach abducted in Germany and driven to France. Valerian Kalinka
Valerian Kalinka (or Walerian Kalinka; 1826–1886) was a Polish priest and historian. Kalinka was born near Cracow, but fled from Poland in 1846 on account of political entanglements and his involvement in the Krakow Uprising. Kalinka was the founder of the Polish branch of the Resurrectionist Order. He worked on the "Czas" newspaper in 1848, but finally took refuge in Paris, where his first work was written -- ''Galicia und Cracoio'', an historical and social picture of the country from 1772 to 1850. He afterwards thought of writing a history of Polish emigration, but eventually chose to edit a weekly periodical entitled "Political Polish News", the principal contributors to which were himself and Julian Klaczko. Though forbidden everywhere but in Posen, it existed for four years, and dealt with every aspect of Polish national life. "Kalinka" is a song by the Danish dance-pop duo Infernal. It was released as the third single from their debut album, ''Infernal Affairs'', in 1998. The song is based on the Russian Drobushki folk melody, and samples "Kalinka" by the Soviet Army Chorus & Band, directed by Boris Alexandrov and recorded in 1956 and 1963. The hill temple of Kalinka is situated in Bironkhal block of Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand in northern India. The temple complex lies close to the border with the Almora district and is dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple has been in existence for centuries but the new structure has been renovated a couple of times in the last decade. It is often confused with Bunkhal kalinka, which is near Malund village of Raath region in Thalisain. History Historically, construction of the temple has been credited to the Badiyaari community. Badiyaris were a semi-nomadic shepherding tribe. Until recently, they have taken up varying professions in the state, some settling in larger cities within or outside of Uttarakhand.
