Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter
The Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter is a nickel smelter in Feysville, south of the town of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. The refinery is operated by BHP and part of its Nickel West operations. Having originally been built by WMC Resources, it changed ownership in 2005 when BHP acquired WMC. Operations The Kalgoorlie smelter is part of BHP's Nickel West operations, which includes, apart from the Kalgoorlie smelter, the Leinster Nickel Mine, the Mount Keith Mine, the Kambalda Nickel Concentrator and the Kwinana Nickel Refinery. Feysville, Western Australia
Feysville is an abandoned town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It is situated between Kalgoorlie and Kambalda just off the Goldfields Highway. Alluvial gold was found in the area in 1895 by the prospector Dennis O'Callaghan, which sparked a gold rush on the Hampton Plains Estate lease. Another prospector and field manager, Captain Henry Fey, established the Feysville mine in 1896, and by 1897 the local progress association began to campaign for the town to be declared. In the same year the town had a debating club and a cricket team and the first hotel was constructed in the town. The town was gazetted on 30 June 1898. The population of the town was 97 (90 males and 7 females) in 1898. Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) was the operator of railway services in the state of Western Australia between October 1890 and June 2003. Owned by the state government, it was renamed a number of times to reflect extra responsibility for tram and ferry operations that it assumed and later relinquished. Richard Fairfax Court (born 27 September 1947) is a former Australian politician and diplomat. He served as Premier of Western Australia from 1993 to 2001 and as Australian Ambassador to Japan from 2017 to 2020. John Trezise Tonkin AC (2 February 1902 – 20 October 1995), popularly known as "Honest John", was an Australian politician.
