Kalchas, Rhodope
Kalchas ( el, Κάλχας, tr, Kalfa), is a village and a community in the municipality of Komotini, in the Rhodope regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. It is located in a flat area, 5 km northeast of Komotini. The community consists of the villages Kalchas, Iampolis, Megali Ada and Mytikas. At the 2021 census, the population was 1,074 for the community. The village is crossed by a small stream (known locally by the name ''Trelocheimarros''), tributary of the Vozvozis, that often overflows during the winter causing problems in transportation. In 2011 the Army has placed a military bridge over the stream that improved significantly the transportation. The main occupation of the village residents is the cultivation of tobacco. Just outside the village passes the vertical axis of Egnatia Odos (A2) which leads to the Greek-Bulgarian border. East Macedonia And Thrace
Eastern Macedonia and Thrace ( el, Ανατολική Μακεδονία και Θράκη, translit=Anatolikí Makedonía ke Thráki, ) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. Rhodope (regional Unit)
Rhodope ( el, Ροδόπη, ''Rodópi'' ) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of East Macedonia and Thrace. Its name is derived from the Rhodope Mountains, which cover the northern part of its territory. Together with the regional units Evros and Xanthi, it forms the geographical region of Western Thrace. The capital of the prefecture is the city of Komotini. The second largest town is Sapes. Most of the Muslims of Thrace, the only officially recognized minority in Greece, are settled in this area, where they form around half of the regional unit's population. Komotini
Komotini ( el, Κομοτηνή, tr, Gümülcine, bg, Комотини) is a city in the region of East Macedonia and Thrace, northeastern Greece. It is the capital of the Rhodope. It was the administrative centre of the Rhodope-Evros super-prefecture until its abolition in 2010, by the Kallikratis Plan. The city is home to the Democritus University of Thrace, founded in 1973. Komotini is home to a sizeable Turkish speaking Muslim minority. They were excluded from the 1923 population exchange. Makaza
Makaza ( bg, Маказа, gr, Μακάζα), previously also known as Balkan Toresi, is a mountain pass in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains, connecting southernmost central Bulgaria with north-easternmost Greece and thus the regions of Northern Thrace, Northern and Western Thrace. The Makaza pass forms part of Pan-European Corridor IX, connecting Helsinki in Finland with the Greek port of Alexandroupolis on the Aegean Sea. Kardzhali
