Kalantiaw
Datu Kalantiaw (Rajah Bendahara Kalantiaw) (sometimes spelled Kalantiao) was once considered an important part of Philippine history as the one who created the first legal code in the Philippines, known as the Code of Kalantiaw in 1433. He was considered by Filipinos, particularly the Visayans, as the third head of Panay (an island in Visayas with four provinces: Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Iloilo). He was a source of fierce Filipino and Visayan pride for decades, until his authenticity was debunked by Historian William Henry Scott in his PhD thesis, ''Critical Study of the Prehispanic Source Materials for the Study of Philippine History'' relegating the once legendary historical figure into a mythical Filipino character or an urban legend. BRP Datu Kalantiaw (PS-76)
BRP ''Datu Kalantiaw'' (PS-76) was the first of three ex-USN s that served with the Philippine Navy, the others being BRP Datu Sikatuna (PF-5), BRP ''Datu Sikatuna'' (PS-77/PF-5) and BRP Rajah Humabon (PF-11), BRP ''Rajah Humabon'' (PS-78/PF-11). She was also the flagship of the Philippine Navy from 1967 to 1981. History Commissioned in the US Navy as in 1943, she was mostly assigned at the Atlantic theatre doing escort duties for UGS and GUS convoys. Code Of Kalantiaw
The Code of Rajah Kalantiaw was a supposed legal code in the epic history Maragtas that is said to have been written in 1433 by Datu Kalantiaw, a chief on the island of Negros in the Philippines. It is now generally accepted by historians that the documents supporting the existence and history of the code, according to some sources, “appear to be deliberate fabrications with no historical validity." written in 1913 by a priest named Jose Marco as a part of a historical fiction titled ''Las antiguas leyendas de la Isla de Negros'' ( en, The Ancient Legends of the Island of Negros). USS ''Booth'' (DE-170) was a built for the United States Navy during World War II. She served in the Atlantic Ocean and then the Pacific Ocean and provided escort service against submarine and air attack for Navy vessels and convoys. Aklan, officially the Province of Aklan ( Akeanon: ''Probinsya it Akean'' k'ɣan hil, Kapuoran sang Aklan; tl, Lalawigan ng Aklan), is a province in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. Its capital is Kalibo. The province is situated in the northwest portion of Panay Island, bordering Antique to the southwest, and Capiz to the southeast. William Henry Scott (historian)
William Henry Scott (July 10, 1921 – October 4, 1993) was a historian of the Gran Cordillera Central and Prehispanic Philippines. His family, of Dutch-Lutheran descent, soon returned to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where Scott spent his boyhood.Peralta, Jesus T, editor (2001) p.16 In 1936, Scott won a three-year scholarship to the Episcopalian-affiliated Cranbrook School in Michigan, United States, where he excelled academically and became interested in pursuing a career as an archeologist. Bendahara ( Jawi: بنداهارا) is an administrative position within classical Malay kingdoms comparable to a vizier before the intervention of European powers during the 19th century. A bendahara was appointed by a sultan and was a hereditary post. The bendahara and the sultan shared the same lineage.
