Kalan Haywood
Kalan Haywood II (born June 5, 1999) is an American politician serving as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. He represents Wisconsin's 16th Assembly district, comprising areas of downtown Milwaukee. Born in 1999, Haywood is the youngest person serving in the Wisconsin Assembly and one of the youngest legislators in the country. Early life and education Haywood was born on June 5, 1999, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from the Rufus King International High School and is currently attending Cardinal Stritch University to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. Haywood's father, Kalan Haywood Sr., is the founder of a real estate development firm and an influential man in Milwaukee. Career Haywood served as president of the City of Milwaukee Youth Council. Wisconsin's 16th Assembly District
The 16th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district is entirely contained within the boundaries of the city of Milwaukee in central Milwaukee County. It comprises much of downtown Milwaukee, including the campus of Marquette University, Fiserv Forum, the Milwaukee Public Museum, and the Marquette Interchange. The district is represented by Democrat Kalan Haywood, since January 2019. The Wisconsin Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. WUWM (89.7 FM, "Milwaukee's NPR") is the flagship National Public Radio station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is owned and operated by the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and licensed to the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. A unit of the UW-Milwaukee College of Letters and Science, the station transmits from the WITI TV Tower in Shorewood, and is based on the seventh floor of Chase Tower in downtown Milwaukee, moving there from facilities in the nearby Shops of Grand Avenue in mid-January 2010. Leon Young
Leon D. Young (born July 4, 1967) is a police officer and former Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 16th Assembly District from 1992 until 2018. Gaining office In 1992, his aunt, incumbent Marcia P. Coggs ( 18th District), waited until just hours before the deadline for filing nomination papers to announce her retirement. Only one potential competitor had time to file nomination papers, since no challengers had planned to file against Coggs for the Democratic nomination (tantamount to election in this heavily-African-American, reliably Democratic district).
