The Haryana Legislative Assembly or the Haryana Vidhan Sabha is the unicameral state legislature of Haryana state in India. The seat of the Vidhan Sabha is at Chandigarh, the capital of the state. The Vidhan Sabha comprises 90 Members of Legislative Assembly, directly elected from single-seat constituencies. The term of office is five years. History The body was founded in 1966, when the state was created from part of the state of Punjab, by the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966. The house initially had 54 seats, ten reserved for scheduled castes, this was increased to 81 seats in March 1967, and to 90 seats (including 17 reserved seats) in 1977. Highest number of seats ever won was in 1977 when Janata Party won 75 out of 90 seats when in the aftermath of 1975–77 emergency by Indian National Congress's (INC) Indira Gandhi. Kaithal district is one of the 22 districts of Haryana, state in northern India. Kaithal town is the district headquarters. The district occupies an area of 2317 km2. It has a population of 1,074,304 (2011 census). It is part of Karnal division. Kaithal was notified as district by Haryana Govt. on 16 October 1989 and carved out of Kurukshetra and Jind districts, comprising Guhla and Kaithal sub-divisions of Kurukshetra district, Kalayat sub-tahsil and 6 villages of Jind district. This district came into existence on 1 November 1989. Divisions Kaithal district comprises four tehsils: Kaithal, Guhla, Pundri and Kalayat; and the three sub-tehsils of Rajaund, Dhand and Siwan. Randeep Singh Surjewala
Randeep Singh Surjewala (born 3 June 1967) is an Indian politician from Haryana and a member of Indian National Congress party. He was an MLA in the Haryana state legislature until 2019 and a former minister. He held water supply and sanitation, parliamentary affairs, electronics and information technology, science and technology and public works as a minister in Haryana cabinet. In 2005, he was given the responsibility of Transport and Parliamentary Affairs and thus became the youngest minister in Haryana. He defeated Om Prakash Chautala in 1996 and 2005. Shamsher Singh Surjewala (24 March 1932 – 20 January 2020) was an Indian lawyer and politician from Haryana belonging to Indian National Congress. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha and Haryana Legislative Assembly. He also served as the president of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, minister of the Government of Haryana and the leader of the opposition in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. He was the father of Randeep Singh Surjewala. Biography Surjewala was born on 24 March 1932. He was involved in politics during his student life. The Samata Party (SAP) is a political party in India, initially formed in 1994 by George Fernandes and Nitish Kumar, now led by Uday Mandal its National President. The Janata Party ( JP, lit. ''People's Party'') was a political party that was founded as an amalgam of Indian political parties opposed to the Emergency that was imposed between 1975 and 1977 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of the Indian National Congress. In the 1977 general election, the party defeated the Congress and Janata leader Morarji Desai became the first non-Congress prime minister in independent modern India's history.
