Kaiser-Friedrich-Gedächtniskirche
The Kaiser-Friedrich-Gedächtniskirche ( en, Emperor Frederick Memorial Church) is a German Protestant church owned and used by a congregation within the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia. The church building is situated in Händelallee in Hansaviertel (a locality of Berlin's Mitte borough) near Großer Tiergarten. Designed by architect Ludwig Lemmer, it was built in 1957, replacing a former nineteenth-century building designed by Johannes Vollmer which was destroyed during World War II. Frederick III, German Emperor
Frederick III (german: Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus Karl; 18 October 1831 – 15 June 1888), or Friedrich III, was German Emperor and King of Prussia for 99 days between March and June 1888, during the Year of the Three Emperors. Hansaviertel
The Hansaviertel () is the smallest ''Ortsteil'' (district) of Berlin and is between Großer Tiergarten and the Spree River, within the central Mitte borough of Berlin. The district was almost completely destroyed during World War II but was rebuilt from 1957 to 1961 as a social housing project by international master architects such as Alvar Aalto, Egon Eiermann, Walter Gropius, Oscar Niemeyer, and Sep Ruf. Called ''Interbau'', the whole ensemble has two churches (St. Ansgar and Kaiser-Friedrich-Gedächtniskirche). It is now protected as a historic monument. Marburg Picture Index
The Bildindex der Kunst und Architektur is an open online database of 2.2 million photographs of 1.7 million artworks and architectural objects. The owner/operator of this database is the German Documentation Center for Art History known formally as Bildarchiv Foto Marburg. In addition to its own image holdings, around 1 million images from 50 partner institutions are also available online. Not all images are of German objects. In 1976 the institution purchased thousands of photographs of the '' Du'' magazine of the Swiss publishing house Conzett & Huber. Between 1977 and 2008, 1.4 million photographs from 15 different institutions were made available on microfiche by Bildarchiv Foto Marburg as the "Marburger Index - the list of art in Germany". Ludwig Lemmer
Ludwig Lemmer (9 August 1891, Salemstraße - 18 October 1983, Berlin) was a German architect. Early life and education Lemmer was born on 9 August 1891 in Salemstraße, Remscheid to Ernst Ludwig Alexander Lemmer and his wife Eugenie Adleheid Marcus. He attended the Technische Hochschule in Stuttgart (1911-1913). In 1917, he attended the engineering school in Danzig. After his service in World War I, Lemmer visited Denmark and Sweden on a study trip. In 1934, he graduated from the Technische Hochschule in Hanover with a degree in engineering. He also passed the state exams for home economics and geography. He later attended the University of Cologne for three years but did not finish his course. Career By 1915, Lemmer was already serving with the 19th infantry batallion (Jägerbataillon) in the Imperial German Army. Großer Tiergarten
The Tiergarten ( en, Animal Garden; formal German name: ( en, Greater Animal Garden)) is Berlin’s most popular inner-city park, located completely in the district of the same name. The park is in size and is among the largest urban gardens of Germany. Only the '' Tempelhofer Park'' (previously Berlin's Tempelhof airport) and Munich's ''Englischer Garten'' are larger. History 16th century The beginnings of the Tiergarten can be traced back to 1527.
