Kailua High School is a four-year public high school located in the Kailua CDP, City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii, United States on the island of O‘ahu. The school serves students grades 9 through 12. Kailua, Honolulu County, Hawaii
Kailua () is a census-designated place (CDP) in Honolulu County, Hawaii, United States. It lies in the Koolaupoko District of the island of Oahu on the windward coast at Kailua Bay. It is in the judicial district and the ahupua'a named Ko'olaupoko. It is northeast of Honolulu – over Nu‘uanu Pali. In the Hawaiian language ''Kailua'' means "two seas" or "two currents", a contraction of the words ''kai'' (meaning "sea" or "sea water") and ''elua'' (meaning "two"); it is so named because of the two former fishponds in the district ( Kawainui and Kaelepulu) or the two currents which run through Kailua Bay. Kailua is primarily a residential community, with a centralized commercial district along Kailua Road. The population was 50,000 in 1992. In 2017 census, the population had dropped to 38,000. Oahu Interscholastic Association
The Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) is an athletic conference composed of all public secondary schools on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, U.S.A. The OIA was first founded in 1940 as the Rural Oahu Interscholastic Association (ROIA). The five founding schools were Castle High School, Kahuku High School, Leilehua High School, Waialua High & Intermediate School and Waipahu High School. The OIA originally comprised all the rural schools on Oahu, which were all of the schools that were not situated in the main city of Honolulu. This changed however in 1970 with the addition of the five former public school members of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu – Farrington High School, Kaimuki High School, McKinley High School, Roosevelt High School and Kalani High School. Joe Wong (American Football)
Joseph Hau'oli L. Wong (born February 24, 1976) is a former American football offensive lineman of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He played college football at Brigham Young University Cougars football, Brigham Young after transferring from Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football, Hawaii. Wong was also a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders. After his playing career, he became a head coach at his alma mater, Kailua High School, leading them to the 2019 Oahu Interscholastic Association, OAI Division I title. Samson H. Satele (born November 29, 1984) is a former American football center. He played college football at Hawaii and was drafted in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Satele also played for the Oakland Raiders and Indianapolis Colts. Early years Satele attended Kailua High School in Hawaii where he was a First-team All-State Offensive lineman as a senior. Derek Ho
Derek Ho (September 26, 1964 – July 17, 2020) was a Hawaiian Chinese surfer who won the world surfing championship in 1993. Ho was born in Kailua, Honolulu County, Hawaii. He began surfing at the age of three, and won the world title at age 29, making him the first Native Hawaiian world champion. Russell Ross Francis (born April 3, 1953) is a former American football player who was a tight end for thirteen seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers. Francis finished his NFL career with 393 receptions for 5,262 yards and 40 touchdowns.
