Kaichi Hirate
Kaichi Hirate (March 12, 1909May 10, 1946) was a Captain in the Japanese Imperial Army. During World War II, he was commandant of the First Branch Camp at Hakodate. In 1946, Hirate was charged with mistreating of prisoners of war resulting in death. The was the official ground-based armed force of the Empire of Japan from 1868 to 1945. Hakodate
is a city and port located in Oshima Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. It is the capital city of Oshima Subprefecture. As of July 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 279,851 with 143,221 households, and a population density of 412.83 persons per km2 (1,069.2 persons per sq. mi.). The total area is . Sugamo Prison (''Sugamo Kōchi-sho'', Kyūjitai: , Shinjitai: ) was a prison in Tokyo, Japan. It was located in the district of Ikebukuro, which is now part of the Toshima ward of Tokyo, Japan. History Sugamo Prison was originally built in 1895, using the prisons of Europe as a model.
