Kai Wessel (countertenor)
Kai Wessel (born 1964 in Hamburg) is a German countertenor and teacher at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. Professional career Kai Wessel started singing in school choirs and as a boy soprano at the Christus-Kirche of Hamburg-Wandsbek and received lessons on piano, organ and oboe. He studied to become a composer at the Lübeck Academy of Music but then concentrated on training his countertenor voice with Ute von Garczynski. He studied baroque performance practice at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with René Jacobs. His first concert was in Flensburg in 1984, his first opera appearance 1988 in the theatre of Freiburg im Breisgau. From 1994 to 2004, he was engaged at the theatre of Basel where he sang in productions of Herbert Wernicke in Handel's Theodora, Giulio Cesare and Israel in Egypt, among others. Peter Kooy
Peter Kooij (or, internationally Kooy, born 1954, in Soest) is a Dutch bass singer who specializes in baroque music. Biography Kooij started his musical career at 6 years as a choir boy. However he started his musical studies as a violin student. He came back to singing, with tuition from Max van Egmond at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam which led in 1980 to the award of the diploma for solo performance. His international career started in 1981 under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe, with La Chapelle Royale and the Collegium Vocale Gent, with whom he interpreted mainly Johann Sebastian Bach, and also performed Henri Dumont, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Jean-Baptiste Lully, Heinrich Schütz and Jean Gilles. Christoph Prégardien
Christoph Prégardien (born 18 January 1956) is a German lyric tenor whose career is closely associated with the roles in Mozart operas, as well as performances of Lieder, oratorio roles, and Baroque music. He is well known for his performances and recordings of the Evangelist roles in Bach's ''St John Passion'' and ''St Matthew Passion''. Dominique Visse (born 30 August 1955) is a French countertenor and founder of the Ensemble Clément Janequin. Life and career Dominique Visse was a chorister at the Notre-Dame de Paris and studied organ and flute at the Versailles Conservatory. As a musician, he developed an interest in Medieval and Renaissance repertories. After studying with Alfred Deller and René Jacobs from 1976 to 1978, he made his opera debut at Tourcoing in Monteverdi's ''L'incoronazione di Poppea'' in 1982. Barbara Schlick
Barbara Schlick (born 21 July 1943, Würzburg) is a German soprano who is particularly admired for interpretations of the concert literature of the baroque era. Career Schlick studied singing under at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and in Essen under Hilde Wesselmann. She later pursued further studies with Rudolf Piernay and Gisela Rohmert. Starting in 1966, Schlick began to appear throughout Europe as a soloist with Adolf Scherbaum's Baroque ensemble. Marc-Antoine Charpentier
Marc-Antoine Charpentier (; 1643 – 24 February 1704) was a French Baroque composer during the reign of Louis XIV. One of his most famous works is the main theme from the prelude of his ''Te Deum'', ''Marche en rondeau''. This theme is still used today as a fanfare during television broadcasts of the Eurovision Network, the European Broadcasting Union. Marc-Antoine Charpentier dominated the Baroque musical scene in seventeenth century France because of the quality of his prolific output. He mastered all genres, and his skill in writing sacred vocal music was especially hailed by his contemporaries. He began his career by going to Italy, there he fell under the influence of Giacomo Carissimi as well as other Italian composers, perhaps Domenico Mazzocchi. Klaus Huber (30 November 1924 – 2 October 2017) was a Swiss composer and academic based in Basel and Freiburg. Among his students were Brian Ferneyhough, Michael Jarrell, Younghi Pagh-Paan, Toshio Hosokawa, Wolfgang Rihm, and Kaija Saariaho. He received the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 2009, among other awards.
