''Kahthiri'' is a Maldivian television series developed for Television Maldives by Mariyam Shaugee. Produced by Television Maldives in collaboration with UNFPA, the series stars Arifa Ibrahim, Ibrahim Shakir, Ali Shameel, Hassan Afeef, Ahmed Giyas, Aishath Shiranee, Niuma Mohamed, Aminath Rasheedha, Neena Saleem, Ismail Wajeeh and Reeko Moosa Manik in pivotal roles. Premise The series highlights several social issues arising including inadequate housing, absence of birth control measures, improper medical treatments, lack of family planning within a large family living in a congested housing complex. Neena Saleem
Neena Saleem is a Maldivian actress. Career In 1996, Saleem made a brief appearance in Yoosuf Rafeeu's award winning film ''Haqqu'' as a friend of Lamha, a promiscuous woman who falls in love with a married man. The film starring Mariyam Nisha, Reeko Moosa Manik and Mariyam Shakeela in lead roles, received positive reviews from critics. Zeenath Abbas
Fathimath Zeenath (born 14 August 1978), commonly known as Zeenath Abbas is a Maldivian actress. She has established a career in Maldivian films and is the recipient of a Gaumee Film Award. Making her screen debut alongside Reeko Moosa Manik in the song "Edheythee Reethi Moona", her first film release was Mohamed Rasheed directed drama film '' Kuhveriya'' (1998). Chilhiya Moosa Manik
Moosa Manik commonly known as Chilhiya Moosa Manik (30 January 1940 – 24 August 2021) was a Maldivian film actor and writer. Early life In 1977, while studying at Majeediyya School, Manik participated in the theatre play performed to celebrate the Golden jubilee of Majeediyya School. He then joined several other theatre performances as a hobby though his first priority lies in sketching and drawing, followed by writing. His most notable performance as a theatre artist includes his role as Viyazor; the administrative chief of the Portuguese kingdom who invaded and ruled over Maldives. His work as a theatre performer was appreciated by the government of Maldives and he was bestowed with the National Award of Recognition in 1983. Niuma Mohamed
Niuma Mohamed (pronounced ; 20 October 1977) is a Maldivian film actress, director, and producer. The highest-paid actress in Maldives, Mohamed is the recipient of several awards, including two Gaumee Film Awards, and four Maldives Film Awards. She holds the record for collecting all three Maldives Film Awards for Best Actress in a feature film. In 2011, the Government of Maldives honoured her with the National Award of Recognition. Ismail Wajeeh
Ismail Wajeeh (20 September 1962) is a Maldivian actor and choreographer. Early life While studying in primary school, Wajeeh, along with his nephews used to perform songs and stage shows to small gatherings. While studying in grade 4, he was offered to be part of an English radio drama produced by the Voice of Maldives, titled "The Enormous Turnip". During his secondary education, he played small roles in stage dramas as an extra. In 1982, he got offered by the leading theatre performing group, Cultural and Drama Society (CDS) to be part of their group. Aishath Shiranee (born 16 January 1975) is a Maldivian former film actress. Shiranee is the recipient of several awards, including one Gaumee Film Award and three Aafathis Awards. Hassan Afeef
Hassan Afeef is a Maldivian film actor. He is celebrated as the actor being featured in the first Maldivian film and song. He is also noted to be the actor to have worked with most directors away from home and acted in most films that were shot abroad. Career In late 1979, Hassan Afeef, a cinema-goer used to watch several Bollywood films screened at limited cinemas in Maldives and imitate their acting afterwards among friends and family. Ali Shameel is a Maldivian film actor and director. Career In 1986, Shameel took part in a stage-play titled CDS-6, alongside Kashima Shakir, Mohamed Rasheed and Chilhiya Moosa Manik which was appreciated among the audience and he continues to feature in several other stage dramas.
