Kadin Island
Kadin Island is an island in the Alaska Panhandle of southeastern Alaska. It is located in the mouth of the Stikine River, NW of Wrangell Island, Alexander Archipelago. Kadin Island is in length. The highest point on the island is above sea level. It belongs administratively to the City and Borough of Wrangell. Alaska Panhandle
Southeast Alaska, colloquially referred to as the Alaska(n) Panhandle, is the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Alaska, bordered to the east and north by the northern half of the Canadian province of British Columbia (and a small part the Yukon Territories). The majority of Southeast Alaska's area is part of the Tongass National Forest, the United States' largest national forest. Mikhail Tebenkov
Mikhail Dmitriyevich Tebenkov (russian: Михаил Дмитриевич Тебеньков; also Tebenkof; 1802 – April 3, 1872) was a Russian hydrographer and vice admiral of the Imperial Russian Navy. From 1845 to 1850, he served as director of the Russian American Company and the governor of Russian America. He is especially noted for having surveyed and mapped the still little-known coast of Alaska. His ''Atlas of the Northwest Coasts of America: from Bering Strait to Cape Corrientes and the Aleutian Islands'' was published in 1852 and contained 39 engraved maps. Career In 1821, Mikhail Tebenkov graduated from the Naval Cadet Corps School. For the next three years, he served on different ships in the Baltic Sea. In 1824, Tebenkov was put in charge of logging for shipbuilding purposes near Narva. In January 1825, he joined the Russian American Company, which led colonizing and trade efforts in North America. Atka, Alaska
Atka ( ale, Atx̂ax̂, russian: Атка) is a small city located on the east side of Atka Island, in Aleutians West Census Area, Alaska, United States. The population was 53 at the 2020 census, down from 61 in 2010. The population of Atka is nearly entirely Aleut (Unangan). The major industry is fishing. Geography Atka is located at (52.199271, -174.213398). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the hamlet has a total area of , of which, of it is land and of it (75.81%) is water. Atka is formed by a shield volcano, with a number of outlets. The highest point on Atka is Korovin Volcano, which last erupted in 2006. Demographics Atka first appeared on the 1880 U.S. Census as the unincorporated Aleut village of "Nazan". The Aleuts ( ; russian: Алеуты, Aleuty) are the indigenous people of the Aleutian Islands, which are located between the North Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea. Both the Aleut people and the islands are politically divided between the US state of Alaska and the Russian administrative division of Kamchatka Krai. A corvette is a small warship. It is traditionally the smallest class of vessel considered to be a proper (or " rated") warship. The warship class above the corvette is that of the frigate, while the class below was historically that of the sloop-of-war.
