Glenn Kable
Glenn Kable (born 4 May 1963) is a Fijian sport shooter who specializes in the trap event. He was controversially omitted from the Australian Olympic Team in 2000 after winning the selection shoot and being a member of the World Championship winning Men's Olympic Trap team from Tampere, Finland, in 1999. He formed the Shooting Association of Fiji shortly thereafter, registering with the ISSF under the Oceanic banner, after an extended business relationship with Fiji, which commenced with family dealings from the late 1970s. He won the World Cup in Korea in 2001 in the first International Shooting event that Fiji had entered. He went on to claim a silver medal in the Italian World Cup that same year in Lonato, climbing to 5th on the World rankings. Subsequently, he picked up a bronze medal at the World Cup in Perth, Australia in 2003, after shooting a perfect 75/75 on the first day. Henry Kable
Henry Kable (1763–16 March 1846), born in Laxfield, Suffolk, England, was an Englishman transported to Australia in the First Fleet and became a prominent business man. Conviction and transport to Australia On 18 March 1783, Kable was convicted of burglary at Thetford, Norfolk, England and sentenced to death. His sentence was commuted to transportation for fourteen years to the United States, however, the American Revolution made transportation to America impossible and Henry was returned to the Norwich Castle jail. At Norwich Castle gaol, Henry met and began a relationship with Susannah Holmes, who gave birth in prison to a son Henry. Holmes had been sentenced to death on 22 March 1784 after being found guilty of theft. Her sentence was also commuted and she was sentenced to transportation to the United States colonies for a term of 14 years. Kable House
The Kable House is an Italianate building from 1873 on the Mary Baldwin University campus. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 19, 1979. It is a two-story, five-bay brick house on a raised basement. Construction started in 1873, and was completed in 1874, for John W. Alby. The Mike Kable Young Gun Award (also called the Mike Kable Rookie of the Year) is an annual motor racing award honouring the achievements of a rookie driver under the age of 30 in either the Supercars Championship or the second-tier Super2 Series. Tony Cochrane, the chairman of the championship's organising body Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company (AVESCO), instigated the accolade in June 2000. It is named after the Australian motoring journalist, motorsport publicist and mentor to young racing driver Mike Kable. The award is presented to the rookie driver adjudged to have performed the best over the course of their first season in either championship following a vote by a panel of motorsport experts.
